Chef John, you've done it again.
Thanks for this awesome recipe!
chef john doesn't sound nearly as whimsical or excited in this one
🙂
I like to brown some sausage, then using some of the leftover drippings and bits, cook off some sliced mushrooms and onions or shallots, deglazing with some white wine, then adding the sausage back in and adding also some cream cheese to taste and stuff bell peppers with that mixture and bake. Works out really well. Feels like comfort food, but isn't too unhealthy haha
I like mine with wild rice and gorgonzola.
I'll bet a little parmesan sprinkled over the top when the foil is removed would jack this up a notch….
Oh snap! I used to eat these as a kid in Turkey with creamy yoghurt and freshly baked bread. I always thought that they where really difficult to cook so i hesitated, but now i know how easy they are. 😀
Funny to hear him not-quite-confident in his style at this point. But no worries. We all know he'll eventually become the Charles Brooking of online cooking.
These my friend, are called Capsicans. Peppers are a whole different ball game. Cheers
What a great dish. Finally attempted it and everyone was stunned at how good it was, so many layers of awesome flavor. Winner^^
"You can cook it to make it leftover." Love it.
So few ingredients but I always come back to this video. It's so much more flavourful than you might expect.
I never allow tin foil to touch anything that is acidic when I'm cooking either.
You can just roast them with a pork sausage mixture and bread crums and parmigiana on top.
Thinly sliced onions… bigly sliced onions hipper, more grammatically (and politically) correct younger brother.
Chef John, you never disappoint! Thanks a trillion!!
Looks killer dude
I haven't had stuffed peppersIn a couple decades. This video has inspired me to try them again.
I dont cut the Head of ,just cut the green stuff ,empty the Paprika ,fill them with a mixture out of raw ham and NON boiled Rice . Put a pice of Bread in to close it.
Saute them in the Pan to increase the taste , after that in the Oven on a bed of tomatoes onions garlic and red wine.
This is how I learned it from my Mom (except the red Wine lol).
Gonna make it today
My Mom would like it ,I guess 😁
I always have to think about her when I prepare this dish.
Have a nice Sunday everybody 😎
Next time try to boil peppers in salted water for at least 5/7 minutes then put in oven. It will make the cooking process much faster.
I started using Jared Salsa instead of tomato sauce.. Tasty!
Those look like prolapsed assholes…ijs…sure they taste good.
I did a vegetarian version of this with cheese, rice and refried black beans with spices added (including some diced jalapenos). Yeah it was good.
I love Chef John but his voice is so much more natural in this video!
I would love to see your take on gemista!
Making this tonight!
Early video, he didn't add cayenne…….
Just made them and they look delicious! My tweaks – dice up the tops and saute them in olive oil, add to meat mixture. Use rice in the bag that cooks in the microwave in 90 seconds. Top peppers with mozzarrella at the end and put back in oven for 5 minutes.
Making this for Christmas Chef! thank you
My mom used tomato juice or V8 and filled the roaster up a bit more with sauce. I preferred poblano, when I started eating things like cooked peppers. She would also have a lot of leftover meat which she made into meatballs. She served them with mashed potatoes with that tomato juice (and meat juices) reduced sauce (cause it does that in the roaster) as the "gravy". Ah, memories.
made them….best ever
Doing way to much for stuffed peppers.
You're the best, Chef John! You take the scare out of cooking
I've made your version of stuffed peppers countless times. We love them!!
Thankyou for the recipe👌🏽
I HATED stuffed peppers when I was a kid. I have evolved. Made these tonight. Used veal/pork/beef combo for the meat, added some riccotta, some red pepper flakes and julienned raw spinach to the meat mixture. Had to omit rice because certain family members "do not eat rice" (hmmm). Every morsel consumed and compliments galore. These are delicious and truly easy and you can tweak them any way you want. SO GOOD.
Looks so delicious! I gotta try it this way.
Your most important contribution to cooking videos is the attention to technique. We used to learn abt technique in home ec classes in high school. Do schools even have home ec classes anymore?
Making these this evening with our stunted late season peppers (PNW here) after clearing out the beds. Size is between full sized peppers and minis, stuffed well though. Swapped onions for shallots in the bottom of the dish since that’s what we had. Swapped an egg for the cheese, same reason. Threw in some fresh chopped basil in sauce and mix since we’re trying to use everything before it goes. Smelling fantabulous in the kitchen right now! As always, thanks for your guidance and awesome recipes!

Thanks. Sheff.
