Dr Pepper Beef Jerky Recipe – Glen And Friends Cooking – How To Make Beef Jerky – Pellet Grill Jerky
This is a pretty standard jerky recipe that uses Dr. Pepper or Coca Cola in the marinade. I’ve made this beef jerky in the oven and also outside on the pellet smoker.
Ingredients:
1Kg (2.2 pound)Ā eye of round roastĀ
2Ā cupsĀ Dr. Pepper
15 mL (1 Tbsp)Ā coarse salt
10 mL (2Ā tsp)Ā black pepper
10 mL (2Ā tsp) white pepper
5 mL (1 tsp)Ā garlic powder
5 mL (1 tsp)Ā onion powder
3 jalapeños, sliced
30 mL (2Ā Tbsp)Ā Worcestershire sauce
30 mL (2Ā Tbsp) soy sauce
15 mL (1 Tbsp) Marmite (optional)
Method:
In a medium saucepan, combine all of the marinade ingredients.
Whisk to combine and bring to a simmer; simmer and reduce almost by half.
Chill the marinade to room temp or colder.
Slice the beef and place in a sealable container along with the marinade.
Work the marinade into the meat and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat your smoker or oven to 175ĀŗF.
Remove the meat from the marinade and dab off the marinade.
Transfer the meat to the smoker / oven in an even layer, and smoke or cook for 2-3 hours.
Timing will depend on how thick you cut the slices, and your oven or smoker.
Check regularly after about the first hour; turn the jerky over and move it around the grill so that the jerky is drying evenly.
When done the jerky should be firm and pliable, but not soft; it should tear easily but not break when you bend it.
Place the finished jerky in a sealable container while it is still warm.

Biltong is a simple recipe compared to jerky: The only necessary ingredients (apart from the beef, of course) are salt, vinegar and plenty of coriander seed, the latter ground to a fine powder. Cut the beef into long thin strips, cutting parallel to the grain of the meat – this part is important to get the right texture. Marinade in the salted vinegar with the coriander seed (and any other spices you want to add) for a day or two. Then hang the strips on a rack in your "dry ager" machine, or on a smaller scale you can use a domestic food dehydrater machine.
They should be dried until they turn completely brown on the outside and have the consistency of soft leather. When you cut into a strip, it can still be slightly red in the middle, that is fine for eating. But for longer term storage, continue drying until it is brown all the way through.
For slicing: Some people like their biltong sliced thinly, and lots of pre-made packages of biltong you find in the shops are sliced to about 2 mm thick. I personally prefer it chunky, so I slice it thicker, about 15 to 20 mm thickness, then cut further into approximate cube-like chunks.
Just got recommended this channel, itās AMAZING. Definitely gained a new subscriber and fan!!!
Honestly, is there anything Dr. Pepper can't do?
Here's a tip for marinating. I found that I get more flavor in the meat in 30 minutes than I would get marinating overnight by putting the meat in a vacuum. You can get a vacuum container that's about 9×9 and 3" deep. It opens the pores of the meat and the marinade gets sucked right in. Try it out.
hyped for the biltong!!!
My mom would do equal parts coke and ketchup on pork ribs. Fantastic!
Here is the steak & coke BBQ recipe he talks about in the beginning of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIyaePXvhUI
I marinade beef jerky in ginger ale and garlic. Turns out amazing!
Itās not āWorcester Sauceā, itās Worcestershire Sauce (Worcester-SHIRE). Great video though!
āIāll bring out the deli slicerā¦ā Then this huge honkinā machine appears! Who else but Glen would keep such a gigantic thing around? Heās always kitted out with the best and shiniest.
"Burning maple today" sounds like Canadian slang for working really hard.
"Boy we're burning maple today, eh?"
I've used Orange Fanta Pop, Cherry Pepsi, "Barq's Root Beer" was a Really Goood one, Barq's Cream Soda, The next one I want to try is the Jarrito's Pineapple soda pop.
I wonder if beer would work ??
Went to Yoder Meats in Yoder yesterday lol. I'm surprised they use any software at all in their smokers since they're an Amish bunch
Oh man my smoker shut off to do a software update half way through a cook !!! MFG that is a problem.
Thanks Glen that is the funniest thing I have ever seen on your channel.
Scratch that funniest thing I have heard on Youtube this year… I'm still holding my sides. lol
I think you use a prop oven. The oven looks too clean to have ever been used.
Have you tried the original Vernor's Ginger Ale for making pork jerky? It's aged, sweet, and gingery. With the remains of a two liter bottle you could make Boston Coolers with your favorite vanilla ice cream.
what about ginger ale?
That's one big ass jar of worchestershire sauce.
Sir,i have watch several videos and you are the only one that does not say how much of the ingredients to have to put in ,thumbs down.
Caution: When adding salt to the Dr. Pepper, have a spacious bowl or sprinkle slowly. I had 3 cups of Dr. P in a 4 cup container. The volcano that resulted filled a 6 cup volume. Not much experience with salting soda.
Good video, but what is pop?
Very good and funny videos bring a great sense of entertainment!
What about a mountain dew jerky?
Glen did you ever film the biltong episode?
Gonna try this with 90% ground beef, jerky gun, and smoker with light apple wood.
Try fanta it's delicious
Vacuum seal is the best way to marinate
Orange is good
Cherry DR Pepper with only cracked pepper.
MTN Dew with Jalapeno works very well.
Monster Energy Drink = sold out by my kids friends but I think it stinks.
Cream Soda Dr pepper is amazing with Jerky "add a little bourbon."
I also make my Marinade a lot thicker. And somewhat candy coat my jerky with it.
People buy my jerky often and I sell out almost every week. I make lbs of it and Cherry wood works way better than maple for flavor and hickory pairs well with DR pepper.
Just discovered your great channel. Love the old recipes.
One question, as a diabetic could I use Diet pop or does the marinade need sugar? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm a novice at cooking.
Please could you do some sugar free recipes
Many thanks
Great video, just what I was looking for. New Sub
Root beer for a jerky marinade is pretty good
