Molcajete

Mid priced restaurant. The molcajete is a volcanic stone used to grind corn. Ingredients were beef strips, avocado, panela cheese, nopal and a hot sauce. They bring tortillas, plenty for two people. The stone is hot to keep the food warm. It was very tasty and filling.

  1. definitely a good fit for r/WeWantPlates

Like you said, a molcajete is esentially a mortar; *not* a plate.

I’d say you got ripped off, it’s usually beef, chicken and shrimp or at least more beef than that. The avocado takes up one side which shouldn’t even be on the hot surface and the nopales take up about half the molcajete

“……used to grind corn”????? Wrong, to grind corn a metate is used. In the everyday Mexico nobody uses a molcajete like a plate, except for Salsas and Guacamole.
