Unstuffed Peppers Dehydrated Backpacking Meal Recipe

This #short shows a backpacking meal recipe we love — unstuffed peppers!. We dehydrate the bell peppers, beans, tomato leather, and rice ourselves and then mail to towns along our hike. The recipe was inspired by Backpacking Chef Glenn — Thanks!

  1. Tex-Mex Stuffed Peppers. Taco or chili type seasonings, rice, black beans, meat n peppers. Marconi peppers are amazing.

  2. Be careful, it’s dehydrated, not freeze dried. Those two things aren’t the same.

Beware, hikers! Dehydrated and freeze-dried meals might sound like they’re the same, but they’re not! Dehydrating can result in up to 50% loss of nutrients, while freeze-drying has a gentler process and can result in only 5-10% nutrient loss. But it’s expensive, so keep that in mind when planning your meals for your next outdoor adventure! And don’t forget — eating too much of these hiker meals isn’t recommended!

  3. I admire your creativity and energy for all the food prep – you eat better than most – hiking or not👍💜

  4. Awwww Renee whats wrong boo? Everytime you finish a sentence you give a little laugh like you just told yourself a joke. This time you were all serious. Its breakng my heart.

  5. What’s the most amount of meals are you carrying at one time? And when it’s hot, how do you store them properly while hiking?

  6. I don’t know how they do this I am in elementary school in 6th grade and they can walk 3000 miles and it is hard for most of use to run the mile in school

  7. That dehydrator machine must have saved you thousands of dollars compared with buying pre-made hiking meals. And best of alll you know exactly what you are eating.

  8. I mentioned it in another short, but you guys should pubish a cookbook with all your recipies and hiking/backpacking tips. I think it would really sell.

  9. I sure wish my husband would enjoy this lifestyle along with me. I love watching your videos of all the yummy trail food and excursions you both go on together and all that you appreciate. I would never go solo so I'm living vicariously thru watching you guys =)

  10. How do you mail them to yourselves? Who's address do you use? How do you make sure you're on time to collect them before they're sent back? Do you get a PO Box in every town you know you're going to stop in? How much does that cost?

  11. Looks awesome! I will be making this! Question…Is the tomato leather dehydrated tomato sauce or tomato paste?
