Peppers

Help! My ghost pepper seedlings are growing roots above the soil surface and are growing leaves that are almost yellowish. What am I doing wrong?

I live in a tropical climate and temperatures are always above 30°C(86°F). I keep them enclosed with a plastic covering with holes made into it. The containers have proper drainage holes and the water drains well. The roots have only appeared recently. The leaves are also turning lighter green (almost yellowish).

You can put some compost to cover the roots on the stem which isn’t a bad thing just means it’s too humid.

Add a bit more.compost to the top to let the roots grow into. At that early stage, roots on the stem aren’t too bad

It might be too humid where you are. Try a small fan on the seedlings to move the air around and help strengthen the stems too. Good luck!

You don’t need a lid anymore. And as everyone else said just fill it with more soil to cover those new roots.

Those are air roots. Just add more soil/bury deeper when up potting.

  5. Don’t use clear cups. Roots don’t like light.

these are normal, cover the bottom root and get it out of the clear cup it’s not good for the roots

like others mentioned, aerial roots occur when there is a lot of humidity and moisture on the stem… just remove the coverings from your seedlings.

2yr home gardener here: To my knowledge, a potential reason this is happening is because your soil is too moist or too dense.

I’m speculating, but I wonder if it decided to grow aerator roots up there because it wasn’t getting enough oxygen.

What is your fertilizer routine? The plants are young, but right past the stage where I would be doing a little feeding – 2 sets of true leaves. As others have said, it could be your watering too much, but if you haven’t fed them yet, its probably time to do so.

Add soil, yellow leaves are lack of sun or nutrients most likely.

Sprinkle a little Epson Salt. Water well. It will turn your plant back to green.

plant it into pot and fertilize it . If yellowing too quickly move out of direct sunlight or artificial lights

Pepper went yellow cause it has no space to expand its roots. Roots grow very fast but we don’t see it. And enough water and fertilizers is not enough. I went through it this season. Why do you have half cup of soil?
