Tawa pulao is one of the staple food in India prepared for lunch, dinner, tiffin boxes and been eaten as a snack.
When you combine Long grain rice with your veggies and pav bhaji masala, there you get the most delicious, street style Tawa Pulao.
It is prepared with butter which enhances the flavour of the pulao.
It is spicy and hence served with raita, but also tastes great with just by itself.
A popular street recipe of Mumbai is filling, delicious and very easy to make. Try this recipe in your kitchen today.
Ingredients:
For Tawa pulao:
Butter- as required
Long grain rice/ basmati rice- 1 cup
Onion – 1 large
Capsicum – 1 large
Tomato – 2 medium
Fresh Green peas – 2 handfuls
Dry red chili – 8-10 depending on the spiciness of chili
Pav bhaji masala – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Coriander – few
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
Salt – as per taste
For Raita:
Fresh curd/ yogurt: 1 cup
Onion – 1 small
Tomato – 1 small
Chili – 1 small
Coriander leaves – few
Bengal gram powder – 2 tsp
Salt – as per taste
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Oil – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few
Direction:
For tawa pulao:
1. Add soaked red chilies, blend to a smooth paste and set aside till in use.
2. Heat butter in a pan.
3. Add the chopped onions, capsicum, tomato, green peas, and saute till translucent.
4. Add ginger garlic paste and saute till fragrant.
5. Add the prepared red chili paste, mix well and cook for a few minutes.
6. Add Pav bhaji masala, coriander powder, mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
7. Add salt and mix well.
8. Add the cooked rice and toss well.
9. Add lemon juice, mix well.
10. Garnish with coriander leaves
11. Serve hot with raita and papad.
For Raita:
1. Add finely chopped onions, tomato, and chili in a bowl.
2. Add fresh curd.
3. Add Bengal gram powder, salt and mix well.
4. Garnish with coriander leaves.
For Tadka:
1. Add oil, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and splatter them.
2. Add curry leaves.
Note:
1. You can use leftover rice for better texture.
2. Do not burn the spices
3. Adjust red chili paste according to your taste.
4. Feel free to adjust the spices according to your taste.
