I purchased this in Puerto Vallarta at a Mexican candy shop. It was sold in a plain clear plastic wrap with no labels, so I’m assuming it’s something they made there.
It has a very complex taste – burnt sugar and caramel notes are there plus other stuff I can’t readily identify, but it’s delicious.
Consistency-wise it’s simultaneously sticky, chewy, crunchy, and hard.
It looks almost like there’s a toffee-like substance inside, but it doesn’t taste like toffee I’m familiar with.
