This Chana dal recipe is so flavorful and wholesome with the beautifully balanced combination of spices, herbs, tenderly cooked chicken and tangy & crunchy chili.
Ingredients
Ĵ Medium green pepper (10 – 12) or as required
Ĵ Fennel Seeds (2 tbsp.)
Ĵ Carom Seeds (1 tbsp.)
Ĵ Nigella Seeds (1 tbsp.)
Ĵ Brown Mustard seeds (1 tbsp.)
Ĵ Fenugreek Seeds (1 tbsp.)
Ĵ Tamarind chatni (4 – 5 tbsp.)
Ĵ Chick pea flour (1/2 cup)
Ĵ All-purpose flour (1 cup)
Ĵ Salt (To Taste)
Ĵ Red chili powder (1 tsp.)
Ĵ Baking soda (pinch)
Ĵ Water
Ĵ Cooking oil
Ĵ Onion (2 Medium-thinly sliced)
Ĵ Ginger & garlic paste (4-5 tbsp.)
Ĵ Onion paste (4-5 tbsp.)
Ĵ Cumin Seeds (1 tbsp.)
Ĵ Cloves (3-4)
Ĵ Cinnamon sticks (3-4)
Ĵ Star Anise (1)
Ĵ Cardamom (3)
Ĵ Coriander Powder (2 ½ tbsp.)
Ĵ Red Chili Powder (1 tsp.)
Ĵ Chicken (1 kg)
Ĵ Split Chick pea (100 gm) boiled
Ĵ Yogurt
Preparation
Medium Green Pepper
Grind fennel seed, carom seed, nigella seed, brown mustard seed & fenugreek seed into a fine powder. Mix 2 tbsp. of powder in the tamarind chatni/Imli ki chatni and make fine paste. Fill the chilies with the paste.
In a bowl add chick pea flour, all-purpose flour, salt, red chili powder and baking soda. Add water gradually and make nice batter. Coat chili into the batter and fry till golden brown.
Dal Curry
In a wok or stew pot, fry onion till golden brown. Add ginger, garlic and onion paste, saute for about 2 mints. Now, add Cumin Seeds (1 tbsp.), Cloves (3-4), Cinnamon sticks (3-4), Star Anise (1), Cardamom (3), Coriander Powder (2 ½ tbsp.), Red Chili Powder (1 tsp.) again sauté for about 2 mints and add chicken. Add little water if required. Cover and cook for about 20 to 25 mints or till the chicken is tender. Now add boiled split chick pea and yogurt, cover and cook for about 10 to 15 mints.
Chana dal with chicken and chili is ready to be served, garnish with brown onion and fried chili.
Best combination with boiled rice or paratha.
