These are my main point for saying nobody knows spicy snacks like the east Asian cultures. They aren't spicy just to be spicy and they are full of other flavor. Here in the United States, I can't get any domestic product that hits like this does. I will drive almost two hours to the nearest H Mart or other large store to stock up on a few bags of these. They're also on Amazon, usually, but going to the store gives me a chance to stock up on other stuff while I'm there.
They are very mild in heat, but it's that pleasing, almost smoky style of heat. They have the perfect crunch, as well. I highly recommend eating them with chopsticks because they are a little oily. Not the unpleasant type like an overly greasy potato chip. It's just a very light coating from the frying process. But they are deeply red chillies, so that little bit of oil is very staining.
Chinese Cooking Demystified did a video a while back that seems to be based on a very similar, if not the same, type of chili preparation. But they used peppers with more spice, which makes me really want to try making these at home.
