My area is testing toasted cheddar street chalupas

It’s the same sauce and filling as before but with shredded cheese on top. The shell uses half the amount of bread and gets grilled to make a very crispy cheesy crust. Safe to expect it ranging from a 3/10 item to a 9/10 item depending on how it’s prepared.

The best part is definitely the crispiness of the shell, if it’s thick enough and brown enough it’s crispier than fried chicken. If not, then it’s pretty mid. I like that there is less bread, but maybe some people will prefer the old version. Fans of the toasted cheddar chalupa from a while back will also enjoy these.

Currently these are only being offered in the Houston TX market. I’m curious which version people prefer!
