I Planted 2 Carolina Reapers, One Grew True and the Other Grew This…Any Ideas?

Seeds bought from a very reputable place. I do grow scotch bonnets and many other ultra hots (maybe I made an error in labeling) but this pepper is smooth, pumpkin shape, and literally zero grooves or wrinkles.

I haven't tasted yet

The other plant grew into an incredibly productive and ultra sinister reaper.

The first pod from a plant is not a reliable indicator of phenotype. Do all of the pods look like this or just this one? Either way, it’s certainly not a reaper. It looks very habanero-esque, and there are a ton of Hab varieties.

I had something similar with my Carolina reaper plants this year. Not as smooth but definitely a habanero texture to it.

What’s crazy is that the Reaper seeds I had were from my reaper plants last year that came out normal reapers then. So most definitely guessing that my reaper plant cross pollination last year.

Any chance we could get an update when you taste one?
