Where in Mexico is this style of tamal from?


There’s a great carniceria near us that serves what they call a tamal and fill it with meat, onions, and cilantro. The texture is spongy and firm, you eat it like a sandwich but it’s made in a husk. I’d like to learn more about this preparation (and it’s delicious) where is this from in Mexico? Google isn’t helping me out.
