  1. Don't get a cast iron pan! It will ruin your beautiful stove. Chili with cornbread is delicious. We have a boxed corn bread mix named Jiffy brand.

  2. You should definitely try it. I make a chicken pot pie with a similar process, but topped with wet biscuit dough instead. It comes out pretty nice and is delicious.

  3. While I have never done chili and cornbread this way. I have made chili and cornbread separately to eat together and it really works. So this should really work.

  4. we make rhis monthly and if you can get either a cornbread mix or the ingredients to make cornbread then you definitely should make this. oh and for this casserole you should always use more then one type of beans.

  10. My husband makes this all the time, only he puts cornbread on the bottom and the chili is baked in the middle, a little like a pie.

  11. Pinto beans, black beans, and kidney beans are best! Kidney beans are different from red beans though, but not super different in flavor or texture just a lot smaller than kidney beans.

  12. I've never had cornbread on my chili. I like both. I usually have cornbread with ham and beans. I like to cut a piece of hot cornbread, cut it open and then smother it in butter on each side. Then I have 2 pieces of bread. It's so good. I like saltine crackers with my chili. Everyone has their favorite chili recipe. I like it thicker and not soupy. This looks good and I'd eat it if someone made it for me but I like my traditional ones.

  13. This dish is what we call "Tamale Pie" and it isn't chili, it's usually a seasoned ground beef filing with corn kernels and onions, a cornbread topping and black olives. The seasoning is similar to, but not identical to traditional Chili.

  14. Cast Iron dutch ovens are the best! But make sure you do research on cast iron items! You will love it!!

  15. different chili recipes have different beans or no beans at all. depends of region too. i like texas chili which as no beans
