I Tried USA Chili With Cornbread, and My Wife and I Were Speechless!

  1. Your wife is lovely!!! You did a great job. Chili and cornbread is definitely a favorite in cold weather. And everyone makes it a bit different. 👍🏻

  2. Most of the time, you can go with cheese (normally cheddar) and sour cream with chili. Both of which tend to help cool things down if it's hotter than you normally want. There are other things to add if you want it spicier

  3. You can also make frito pies. Chile and fritos , you can add cheese the one you use to make nachos. SO GOOD. Here in Texas also make the Doritos, cheetos or flaming hots wirh same cheese for nacho pour it in to the bags of these chips. So Good. Try it , delicious.

  4. I oohed when I saw you got a cast iron skillet. At this point, you're an honorary American (and Southerner).

  5. The reason ppl will add sour cream to spicy food is that the butter fat will cut into the bite of the spice but leave the flavor. I actually add ranch dressing to BBQ sauce, it cuts the bite but still lets the smokey flavor through. Oh Ranch dressing might be something we have to introduce you to.

  6. Loooooove Chili with cornbread. I make mine mild… just enough spice for flavor but not enough to burn your mouth. I top mine with fresh onions and shredded cheddar cheese.😊 Fresh cornbread out of the oven with butter and honey – delicious.

  7. Try Frito Pie
Fritos with chili and shredded cheese.
    Optional:
    Diced Onions

My mom would include diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce (iceberg)

  8. More like a Tamale Pie to me. Looks good though. Would probably have added some cheese and sour creme in the bowl/plate for serving.

  9. Andre, you make me smile 😊
I am so glad you made chili with cornbread. It's a wonderful combination and I knew you and your wife would enjoy it.

  10. You can serve the chili over rice if you don't have cornbread. That also helps with the spiciness. Great job 🎉

  11. Quick fact- chili powder comes from ground chilis. Your dish looks amazing. I might have to try that myself, except I’ll add jalapeño to the cornbread.

  12. This week it was seven below zero. Chili is a great hearty meal which I had twice this week. If you want less liquid in your chili, just cook it for a little bit longer. It’s only gonna take a few minutes for it to reduce it. Just intensifies the flavor.
    You should make chicken chili.

  13. I made chili and cornbread a few days ago when the temps here in Indiana were around zero fahrenheit. I also put corn in my chili, and use 4 to 6 different kinds of beans – light red kidney, black, pinto, garbanzo, Roman, and sometimes cannellini. I do the cornbread separately and crumble it in the bottom of the bowl, then add the chili. It's also very good to top your bowl of chili with some fresh chopped onion, shredded cheese, and/or sour cream. I also experimented with using shredded chuck roast (and some beef gravy, no chicken broth!) in place of the browned ground beef – really steps it up a notch. Looks like you used a green bell pepper? Need to use some hatch or green chilies, too.

  14. Everything looks really good! 🤤.

Tip: cooking acid based food like chili can effect the seasoning on your cast iorn, so braising with tomato based liquid is not really recommended.

It will be ok for occasion,as long as you wash, dry and re-season the cast iorn right away.

Extra tip, you can make the chili separate from the cornbread and then you can add cheese and or sour cream to the chili in a bowl. It can help tame the spicy heat a little bit.

  15. Some of the iron leeches into your food when you cook with it which is a good way to supplement iron if you’d don’t eat a lot of iron rich foods.

  16. Some American suggestions –
    1. A small amount of honey will upgrade the cornbread to another level.
    2. Try swapping regular chili powder for chipotle chili powder. The added smokiness is delicious.
    3. Add some umami bombs – a small amount of worcestshire or soy sauce really amp a chili. I generally use beef, not chicken stock.
    4. If you have it, swapping a little bit of the mince for a equivalent amount of diced beef roast or italian sausage is yummie.
It's super cool that you're finding American recipes so good.

  17. Just making a pot of chili add the juice from the cans. Baking with cornbread on top, drain the liquid out of the cans.

  18. Nice job but prepared differently. I've eaten chili and cornbread all my life but never had the corn bread on top! I also cook the chili in a large pot with more tomato and no broth (I'll try it with broth).
    Greetings from California.

  19. You are doing amazing with the cooking and the eating! 😊. I love watching someone experiencing American Cuisine for the first time!
