Beans go in chili because its a traditional Navajo vegetarian bean dish. Texans just co-opted the term and took out the beans.
Also, as a personal story. I was visiting Ohio a few years back and there was a chili cookoff in my aunt's neighborhood. I made a traditional New Mexico chili, and came in last place to everybody trying to pass off watery spaghetti sauce as chili.
People don't put beans in chili? Where they been eating chili from? The moon? (PS I won a chili cook off using Emril Legosse's 5 bean chili soup recipe but I'll try this one next time)😊

NO BEANS IN CILLI FAKE FAKE
Chili has beans. If it dose not have beans that's a chili sauce. Something you put on other things. Like pasta, hot dogs, or rice.
Thanks for sharing Kent and Shannon, great recipe for sure. Fred and family.

I can't believe you put foreign matter (beans) in your chili.

Out of desperation I put black eyed peas in my chili when I realized I had no pintos in the house. Now it's an expected thing.
No tomatoes whatever them.
I love it with or without. Or chunks of meat or ground meat. Tomatoes or not. I just love chili.
I like beans in my chili, too!
Yeah I love beans in chili more than the meat lmfao
I love the fact that you are proudly representing Ruidoso, NM. Spent over 20 years there off and on. Great place, great people, amazing food.
