ROASTED BELL PEPPER AND WALNUT DIP (MUHAMMARA). and today I want to share the most versatile dip. This you can use as a dip or a spread in sandwich or wraps. So very healthy; and with natural sweetness of fresh Walnuts from Chile; you get that wonderful earthy taste and texture. I have given alternates for certain ingredients in this recipe, if you don’t find the ingredients online. Enjoy this world famous dip from Middle East called Muhammara.
– Take 2 bell peppers and 2 tomatoes and char them over flame or in oven
– remove the burnt skin and de-seed them
– Roughly chop them
– now in a mixer / food processor, take charred tomatoes and bell pepper
– add 1/2 cup walnuts
– add 1 clove of garlic
– add chili flakes or red chili powder
– add 1 tsp Sumac (you will find it online)- optional
– 1 lemon juice
– 1 tbs honey
– Instead of lemon juice and honey, you can also take 2 tbs Pomegranate Molasses (its what gets used in authentic Muhammara recipe in Middle East)
– add salt
– add 1 tbs Olive oil
– add 1 slice breadcrumbs
– Now coarsely grind everything
– Garnish with fresh coriander, pomegranate, and some walnuts
– drizzle some more olive oil on the top
– serve with pita chips or toasted bread
