Homemade MRE Meals For ONLY $1!

I took inspiration from a popular $10 freeze-dried meal and made my own MRE for just $1 per serving—and it tastes even better. This beef lasagna is packed with seasoned meat, cheese, and pasta, and it rehydrates beautifully. In this video, I’ll show you how I made it from start to finish.

  1. you say a $1.77 per meal, but you still have to factor in the cost of the shopping trip (gas+time) and the cost of the electricity to cook, freeze, dry, and reconstitute. It's still probably very VERY low cost, but it will be a more accurate cost. Man I wish I had a harvest right though. ;n;

  2. When that stuff costs a normal price, I'll buy it. Right now freeze dryers are 100x more than what it cost to make them

  3. Ok my first time watching one of your videos but are you doing the super troopers “alright meow”?

  4. You missed factoring in the cost of the freeze dryer, bags, and vacuum sealer into the cost per meal. Until the dryer and the vacuum sealer have been used enough to pay for themselves, their cost is still a factor, and the bags and oxygen absorbers are also a cost per meal. I'd expect that once those are factored in, your meals are probably much closer to the $10 mark of the Mountain House meals than the $2 mark you've calculated. For the average casual user, those costs may make the cost per meal drastically higher than the cost of the store-bought meals.

    That said, even if the costs end up being similar, there's a lot to be said for being able to control exactly what goes into the meal and to make it in a way you like. Having food that you actually enjoy is far better than simply having mere sustenance. In the field or in an emergency situation, the difference in morale that an enjoyable meal makes could very well be worth the extra cost.

  5. Outstanding instructional vid, thanks for that! Just wanted to point out that you didn't include the price of the mylar storage bag. Even still, MUCH cheaper and better than the store brand.

  6. Love your cost breakdown.. could you also weight in the packaging cost going forward as well as the desiccant pack?

  7. Gotta idea why don't you make like little packages for the grease you could seal the grease and a little baggies and have them inside the mre does tallow go bad idk but could be a great way to add fats back into the meal

  8. I know this is off subject, but I need to know what freeze dryer do you have? I am looking to buy a second one.

  9. Weirdest question I've ever asked on youtube….are you saying "Meow" instead of "Now"? I've watched this twice, slowed it down, used Bose headset…..it sounds like you are saying Meow? Is this a channel thing? Trying to decide if I want to keep watching or I'm hallucinating.

  10. $1 freeze dried meals And $3k for the dehydrator plus a huge power bill. Thanks I'll just buy the dehydrated meals.

  11. I had gotten one of those kits that say the meals are great, taste great, etc. After it sitting a few years I wanted to refresh supplies so had them for some meals. They would be good for emergency use….the really didn't taste good. I was surprised because I had done a fair amount of hiking in the early 80's and took freeze dried meals and those were really good. I've been unsure how to use my freeze dryer on prepared meals. This video helps.

  12. This was a wild ride, from the splattery sauce to the feelings of insufficiency and then the casual waving around of the trays… really had me on my toes LOL.
