๐น For Tofu:
โข 200g tofu (firm or extra firm)
โข 1 tsp black pepper
โข ยฝ tsp red chili powder
โข Salt to taste
โข 1 tbsp cornflour
โข Spray olive oil (for grilling)
๐น For Sauce (mix in a small bowl beforehand):
โข 1 tbsp light soy sauce
โข 1 tbsp homemade zero-sugar tomato ketchup
โข 1 tbsp Schezwan sauce (adjust to spice level)
โข 1 tsp vinegar (white or apple cider)
โข 1 tsp honey (optional, for balance)
โข 1 tsp cornflour + 2 tbsp water (for slurry)
๐น For Cooking:
โข 1 tsp olive oil
โข 4โ5 garlic cloves, finely chopped
โข Sliced onions and bell peppers (as per preference)
โข Additional chili powder, black pepper & salt (to taste)
๐ช Steps
1. Prep the Tofu
โข Cut 200g tofu into bite-sized cubes.
โข In a bowl, mix black pepper, red chili powder, salt, and cornflour.
โข Toss the tofu in this mix until evenly coated.
2. Pan-Grill the Tofu
โข Spray olive oil on a non-stick pan.
โข Grill tofu over medium heat for ~10 minutes until golden and crisp.
โข Take it off the pan and keep aside.
3. Pre-Mix the Sauce
โข In a small bowl, combine:
โข Soy sauce
โข Homemade sugar-free tomato ketchup
โข Schezwan sauce
โข Vinegar
โข Honey (optional)
โข Cornflour slurry (cornflour + water)
โข Mix well and keep aside.
4. Sautรฉ Veggies & Garlic
โข In the same pan, heat 1 tsp olive oil.
โข Add chopped garlic and sautรฉ for 1 minute.
โข Add sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for 2โ3 minutes until slightly soft but still crunchy.
5. Cook the Sauce
โข Pour the pre-mixed sauce into the pan with veggies.
โข Let it simmer and thicken for 1โ2 minutes.
โข Adjust seasoning with chili powder, pepper, or salt if needed.
6. Toss the Tofu
โข Add the grilled tofu into the thickened sauce.
โข Toss everything well so tofu and veggies are fully coated.
โ Ready to Serve!
โข Serve hot as is or pair with brown rice/quinoa.
