Did I Just Find the Dr Pepper Recipe? (23 Secret Ingredients!)

Cherry soda may have came first, but Dr Pepper became legendary. It is one of the oldest continuously served beverages in the United States, but also a very well-kept formula…unitl now. Though Dr Pepper is known to be a type of cherry soda, it has a much more complex nature and the company even states it has 23 flavours. Coincidently, the recipe I’ve discovered also has 23 flavours, depending on what you classify as a flavour. In this video we’ll just go through the 23 compounds that make up the flavours people have speculated are in Dr Pepper.

And @johnschannel1007 since you are a dedicated fan of Dr Pepper, this video might be of interest.

  1. I love yours video and exploring the history of drinks making.
I'm looking to get into making my own drinks, as I'm extremely sensitive to caffine, and I was wondering what you'd use as a caffine substitute for the bitter tones if you were making this yourself?

  2. Dr Pepper is gonna send their best assassins now that you’ve found out their secret, Godspeed good sir. Honestly thought great video!

  3. i would love to see you actually make the drink with carbonated water and have some family and friends do a taste test. then share the recipe with patreon members.

  4. I actually tried adding ground black pepper to coke and it actually tastes pretty good.. Maybe not Dr pepper but sort of not bad…. I know!

  5. oooohhh yeah!!! 1:39 I just got it today in Québec!! Sooo happy! I've never read a table of contents that actually got me really excited about reading and wanting to make a perfect lil latte to start this, I'm so hyped! Plus I check youtube and see new video from Art of Drink! the presentation on the table is super nice and all! this is going to be a crazy video 😀 have a great one Mr. O'Neil!🔬🧪😎🍒

  6. i had a look thru the manual you mentioned and found an angostura bitters recipe, i would lov to see yiu try to make it

  7. It was reported (by @GlenAndFriendsCooking, in his "Squozen Cola" video) that Gum Arabic gives Cola the mouth feel it should have.

Would you say it would be better to use ester, or glycerine, or Gum Arabic, or just burnt Caramel for emulsifying the essential oils in homemade Cola?

You also mentioned, in your video on using Caramel to emulsify, that you would be making another video on emulsifying with Caramel. I am waiting on that information!

    Thanks!

  8. I was super excited to see this video, I only wish we did not have to watch another for the final result…

  9. Is there a resource somewhere where I can find a classic Ramune Soda recipe. I tried the syrup but it's not the same it's too sweet not enough flavor I would like to make my own. Is there a website or forum for soda recipes you could recommend??

  10. If I'm using dihydrocoumarin as a substitute for coumarin in and formulation, would I use it in a 1:1 substitution or would I scale back/up on it to account for it not being the same exact thing?

  11. Wow! Greg from HTD turned me to your channel, and I'm so glad. 4 months ago I went down the rabbit hole making a Dr Pepper-inspired cocktail, but looks like I was 2 months too early. This vid jumped out even before the grenadine for which I had come here. My ultimate specs on my "Drink a Bite to Eat" cocktail are decently in line with this. With 23 ingredients, there will be omissions over "commissions", but the exception is an absinthe rinse. Anise seems commonly cited in DP flavor guesses. Is there speculation to an overlap with anything on this list? Or where these guesses have gone awry? Again, amazing video; instant subscribe here.
