  1. Original Texas chili was without beans. Beans are a filler. The story behind how beans were incorporated into chili was back in the cowboy days when cowboys lived on the range moving cattle, they had chefs that cooked for them. This chef was low on ingredients and was afraid he didn't have enough chili to feed all the cowboys. So, he had a bunch of beans and decided to add the beans to make enough to feed everyone. Thats how beans came into chili. The Original Texas chili is without beans.

  2. Im a chilli sl ut ,beans no beans, green chilli , chicken chilli.A bowl of red is for celebrating(with no beans) but if i add beans its because i want chilli for longer lol

  3. No beans, that ain’t texas. But yes, beans are acceptable. Just don’t put sauce on my BBQ, nothing to hide.

  4. Thank you, I prefer no beans so I can taste the wonderful meat and spices without being buffered by the legumes!

  5. Depends. People in Kansas love beans and think it’s weird when I make the Texas chili I grew up with back home with no beans.

  6. No beans. Not that I don't think they belong or not in chili, but that I have a weird allergy to legumes. If there's any kind of beans in it (even if I pick them out and don't eat the bean part), I will be bringing it back up in less than 5 minutes.

  7. If I’m just using a spoon in a bowl, I almost require beans in my chili. It adds flavor, texture and body.

If I want meat-only chili I’d rather go all-in with a stewed meat dish like chile Colorado with big chunks of pork or beef.

  8. I like to take about a third of my ground meat, no matter the mix, and brown it out of existence. Then I add that to my raw mix and keep going with the chili. That deep caramelized flavor is beautiful.

  9. Never thought of adding some mirepoix to chili, I'll try it next time, thank you.

Almost forgot the question, I usually add a few cans of three bean mix (kidney beans, pinto beans, and black beans) to my chili. If anyone complains about beans then ask them about serving it over spaghetti noodles and how much cinnamon they put in the chili.

  10. Some say NO, but I truely love beans in my chili, even Black beans. I think the combination is just so good. But actual 'Texas Chili', no beans..
