Today we make 5 cocktails from the 1964 Dr. Pepper booklet “Try These New Drinks with… Dr Pepper.” There were 9 drinks that were featured and I picked out the 5 that I thought looked best. None of these were great and none of these were awful. Have now done mutiple soda cocktails videos using recipes from the 1960s, I prefer the 7-Up cocktails to the Dr. Pepper.

I’ll give the witch doctor a shot. I hear you on the theraflu note. My wife made a delicious chicken, lemon and orzo soup a couple of weeks ago but that theraflu memory popped up.
I do a take on the Witch Doctor that adds a half ounce of absinthe and half ounce of grenadine.
The Dr. Pepper and rum is a great idea!
Big fan of hot Dr. P, so doing like a hot buttered Boomer sounds so good to me
You should do more videos of drinks you don't like! That was fun to watch.
I always liked Dr Pepper and Captain Morgan
TIJUANA TAXI
1- ounce Tequilla, El Charro
2- ounces Dr Pepper
Lime, cut into quarter wedges
Pour Tequilla and Dr Pepper over ice, squeeze
lime into drink, stir and enjoy.
the Top Hat is a murdered Manhattan. but i think there could be something to make from it.
a… Dr. Manhattan, if you will.
Dr. Pepper doesn't have the spice complexity of Coca-Cola that could replace a sweet vermouth that is needed here. so it just needs something else.
My grandmother (now in her eighties) once told me that she went through a phase of drinking straight crème de menthe on ice. 🤢
So maybe it was just real popular with the ladies in the ‘60s?
Love these left turn videos…well done!
I like hot Dr. Pepper straight on a cold winter evening. I'll have to try some adulterations in the future..
Tom Collins is one of my absolute favorite cocktails
I am a hard-core Dr Pepper drinker. Been drinking it since the 70s. Majority of my life I like it just as it is, nothing added. Over the years I have occasionally mixed it with a few different alcohols. Hated every one of them…Until I found Bulleit Bourbon. I love it so much I nearly turned into an alcoholic! The two together just compliment each other. One of the best cocktails I've ever had!
Summary of the vid- Watch the vid, save your booze as these cocktails aren't all that great. Informative and interesting watch.
What about a drink with Absinthe, Dr. Pepper and a dash of Dark Sambuca? Maybe a dash of lemon? A dash of bitters?😮😮😮
Wonder how the Top Hat would be using different proportions.
I love jack and Dr Pepper myself or honey jack and cherry Dr Pepper
Black velvet and dr pepper are really good together. Black velvet kinda taste like dr pepper
Thank you for trying these so we don't have to 😅
Most misunderstood? My good sir, have you heard of Moxie?
i seem to remember they used to say enjoy hot or cold on the lable
You don't SHAKE carbonated drinks….
I usually drink Dr.Pepper (or Cherry Dr.Pepper) with whiskey. Add a cherry or 2 and some of the cherry juice/syrup
Dr.pepper and jagermeister are a good combo, tastes like vanilla to me for some reason lol
I'd like to see better balanced versions of these drinks. The hot dp is just that a good drink but they added rum. I don't think you need to revisit unless you think making it with gin would be better. Also like to see what other dp cocktails are floating around. Fun to know once upon a time Dr.Pepper made their own cocktail pamphlet and these were the drinks offered. I will say I think wild turkey 101 was a bit much but other than Jack or Jim beam what other whiskey would they use. I think soda cocktails are just the best entryway for cocktail drinking so finding the best mixes is paramount.
Since last year me and my mom would make hot dr pepper for the winter. But never added any alcohol to it. Hot Dr Pepper been a thing for a long time and it's really good.
Modify the boomer by adding orange peel while it's warming up and pour over a orange slice with 1.5/2 oz of rye or bourbon and its much better.
My favorite because Dr Pepper is too much of a coward to make just regular Vanilla Dr Pepper my favorite cocktail is with a half shot to full shot of Vanilla Crown.
Great, as a semi Dr Pepper addict, you're dragging me into it
I REALLY dont like Dr. Pepper i think it has a weird and baf aftertaste that i dont like! HOWEVER i love the history behind the company and the marketing behind the company itself since it had to compete with Cocacola and PepsiCo!
Dr. Pep & Deserono is a banger
It was definitely interesting. The last was definitely the most interesting. I remember working for an online computer gaming company that took over an old restaurant in Key West, Florida. There in the bar was a thermometer with the saying "Dr. Pepper; hot or cold." This started me down the rabbit hole that was all about a problem of soda drinks during the winter months. That history didn't include alcohol, but I can see how that added element secretly made this marketing perfect.
There's been enough times that I've had a swig of DP and then took a bite of peppermint patty and had my face pucker up, I can't imagine combining those tastes intentionally 😂
That being said, my favorite mix is just a shot of fireball plus enough DP to fill the rest of the (usually hurricane) glass! Mostly just heightens the spiciness of the DP!
I mean at my house we mix our homemade liquor with sparkling water although I don’t know if I would mix it with Dr. pepper
I suspect the thought was that women would be more concerned that the drink would give them fresh breath than men.
Rum and Dr. Pepper is pretty solid.
Obviously if you mix 1 part Wild Turkey 101 with 1 part Dr. Pepper, it’s going to taste like Bourbon. Maybe use a less potent spirit or put more soda in it.
