Where did you ever get the idea that prices are directly related to ingrediant and labor cost, as opposed to what people will pay for them?
They’re priced like that because people will pay that. Instead of spending time trying to figure out how to get the most food per dollar, they’re hungry, they see a Taco Bell, so they pull in and order a taco and a drink, as the default from you know, Taco Bell.
Yes, people like you think a taco is “too expensive”. That’s why they have a box for you so they still get your money but you’re not interfering with the people willing to pay top dollar for a a la carte taco and drink.. It’s called “price discrimination” and every business that can do it is doing it. It’s most obvious with the airline where the exact same seat can cost five times as much if you buy it on a different day but every other business including Taco Bell tries to do it too if they can. If they’re not doing it when they can they have terrible business sense and have no business trying to run a for-profit company.

$3.20 for a single supreme taco is the thing I find insane. I know I’m aging myself, but they were $0.79 when I started going to Taco Bell regularly in the mid ‘90s. 😭😭
