Hyderabadi Mutton Marag | Wedding Style Creamy Mutton Soup | Marag Recipe

Today we’re making a royal wedding delicacy from Hyderabad — Hyderabadi Mutton Marag.

Marag is a rich, creamy and aromatic mutton soup traditionally served at Hyderabadi weddings before the biryani. Unlike regular mutton soups, this one is delicately spiced, mildly creamy, and infused with nuts, fresh herbs and white pepper — giving it a refined and royal flavour.

If you love authentic Hyderabadi cuisine, this recipe is a must-try.

🥣 Ingredients for Hyderabadi Mutton Marag

• Oil – 150 ml
• Black cardamom – 1
• Green cardamom – 4
• Black pepper – 12
• Zeera – 1 tsp
• Cloves – 8
• Cinnamon – 1 inch
• Onion (sliced) – 1
• Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
• Mutton – 500 grams
• Yoghurt – 4 tbsp
• White pepper powder – 1 tbsp
• Salt – to taste
• Water – to make stock

For Nut Paste:
• Cashews – 8
• Peeled almonds – 15
• Milk – 40 ml
• Green chilli (spicy) – 2

For Fresh Finish:
• Fresh coriander – 40 grams
• Mint leaves – 30 grams
• Green chilli (non-spicy)

👨‍🍳 Method

Heat oil in a heavy-bottom pan and add whole spices. Let them splutter.

Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
Add ginger garlic paste and mutton. Sauté well for 5 minutes.

Fry until the mutton slightly browns at the edges.
Add yoghurt and cook for another 5 minutes.

Add white pepper powder and salt.
Pour water to create stock and cover the lid. Cook for about 1 hour or until mutton becomes tender.

Meanwhile, grind cashews, almonds, milk and green chilli into a smooth paste.

Once the mutton is cooked, add the nut paste and cook on slow flame.

Add mint leaves, coriander and green chillies.
Simmer for 10 minutes until it reaches a smooth, soup-like consistency.

Serve hot as a starter before biryani.

  2. Osama bhai ise desi ghee me pakaya jata hai. Aap ne pan ki jad aur khas ki jad bhi istemaal nahin kiya. Ise special hyderabadi Naan ke saath khaya jata hai.

  3. Chacha ji main ek Garib Ghar ki ladki hun mujhe Biryani ki dukaan Kholi hai mujhe muradabadi Biryani banani hai 10 kilo ki kripya karke 10 kilo chawal mein Pani ubalte samay Namak Kitna dalen iski jankari de de please chacha ji help chacha ji🎉
