Making the official Green Arrow’s Chili from DC’s Green Arrow Secret Files and Origins (2002) #1

J’onn and Arthur need to calm down, it wasn’t that bad.

  1. As a fan of Gambit (with a bunch of Cajun family) and Green Arrow, this revelation makes me want to see them cross over even more.

  2. It seems a little…bland. like, that's just a regular chilli. Like, deadass a regular chilli.

Also, you shouldn't remove the excess oil, it prevents the burning and adds some extra liquid volume

  3. I know it was fine but you can't substitute Cholula for Tabasco. Tabasco is vinegar based and offers a completely different flavor profile to Cholula.

  4. So you didn't follow the recipe because your cheap and lazy, skip video, thumbs down don't reccomend channel, goodbye

  5. Dude had to go to the store and didn't buy all the ingredients? Seriously you had to get some specifically for this but couldn't get the others even though they were arguably easier to find.

  6. Bro said he is gonna be making the Chili "as close as possible with a few changes". And proceeded to make like 5+ alterations in the ingredients alone 🥀

I’ll never understand this. you had the idea, recorded it, edited and uploaded this video, but couldn’t be bothered to get the correct ingredients for said video , while already going to the store.
You changed the meat, chili powder, hot sauce, cheese, wrong crackers, and took the liberty of adding beef stock

You did not make green arrows chili,
you decided to make chili with whatever you had on hand and mention the fact that green arrow also makes chili

  8. "Here is the recipe I'm going to be using.
Now this is how I changed every single aspect of it because I'm lazy and/or cheap."

  9. Bro is talking about 'this economy' ignoring it's still night and day compared to the left's under the Forgetter in Chief that was Biden and ignoring that Hawaii, being an island in the literal middle of nowhere, will always have and be less competitive naturally than somewhere on the mainland. As a guy who lived in Hawaii for three years, that sounds about right. Lovely people, very naive and foolhardy.

  10. Bruh, why would you drain the fat off the meat? Most of the flavor of the beef is in the fat. That's basic cooking 101. Why don't you just drown the beef in water why don't you? I thought Asians were allies to flavor! 😭

  11. If I had a nickel for every chili recipe I've ever seen in a comic book, I would have two nickels.

It isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice

  12. Replace every pepper with pepper X, and a generous amount of bear repellent pepper spray might get the right spiciness lvel

Although if were being super serious he probably uses resinferatoxin

  13. If it had Martian Manhunter dying on the spot, I would’ve expected Ollie to put at least every single hot pepper known to man at the least.

  14. I cried when I found out he only uses powdered spices. Bro's missing out on real chilis, but at least he uses real garlic and onion.

  15. ZIPPYS! You namedropped a Hawaii exclusive like that? WHAT! and then you pronounce Hawaii correctly. DAMN I didn't know you knew game like that.

  16. Heard a story of someone making this for an office party. Reported back that "apparently no one has spice tolerance at my job and the plumber is showing up on Monday."

  17. Since so many people are slagging off this guy's recipe.
    1) The recipe itself can't decide on the meat, so he went with the cheaper option. Go give him money if you want more expensive.
    2) Tabasco Vs Cholula yes this isn't a small change, but it is an upgrade. Tabasco also isn't hot, so it's not like that's the reason it wasn't spicy
    3) Upping the garlic is always the correct move
    4) Beef broth over water is the correct move
    5) Subbing out Cayenne for Chilipowder… now this WOULD effect things. A little. It's a tea spoon for 1.5 POUNDS of meat.
    6) He added too much sugar! …Yes he admitted that mistake. And while the molasses would be good for the taste, that much sugar would really overpower the spice. It's a mistake, one we don't need to follow.

All said though… 3 tea spoons of mildly spicy powders and a few dashes of freaking TABASCO aren't making you a spicy bowl of chili. I have drank Tabasco straight up on a dare. Stuff is not hot. Yeah, he made some changes to save money, which I will never shame someone for, and yeah he got a few things wrong, which is a bit sloppy, but in the end, not much meaningfully changed besides the brown sugar, and even that wouldn't change the fact this won't be spicy. Period.

If you WANT spicy chili, bust out the food processor, and get yourself 3ish peppers you like. Say, Chipotle in adobo sauce (a small can's worth ~8ozs), 2ish Poblano peppers (roast them yourself for added flavor), and anything from Habanero to Scotch Bonet to Ghost Peppers (Personal favorite) for heat (roughly equal amounts as the Poblanos). Process that into a paste, add after the ground spices but before the tomatoes by about a minute (And use some fire roasted tomatoes for extra smokiness). Make sure you use a small amount of dark brown sugar, or just molasses for sweetness, up the garlic from the base recipe, use beef broth rather than water like he did. And there you go, tasty, spicy chili.

People here acting like Tabasco was the reason this wasn't hot… You all need to go taste real food.

  18. This just confirms that everyone else in the Justice League except for Batman are extremely weak to spice.

  19. I scoffed when I saw the recipe called for tobasco; my girlfriend's chili recipe calls for two scotch bonnets as an ingredient so I am EXTREMELY well-versed in spicy chili.
