🌿 From Pepper Garden to Kitchen | Fresh Black Pepper Harvest & Delicious Recipes 🌿
One pleasant morning, I visited our pepper garden where the black pepper crop was ready for harvesting by the end of February. 🌱 This year the yield was slightly lower than usual, but the excitement of harvesting fresh pepper was just the same.
I began plucking the fresh, mature pepper spikes from the vines. Just then, our neighbor uncle joined me and helped with the harvesting. 🤝 After we finished collecting the pepper, I returned home.
At home, our neighbor aunty was waiting for me. 😊 She helped with the traditional process of boiling the fresh peppercorns and preparing them for drying. After boiling, we spread the pepper in the sun to dry. ☀️
It usually takes 7–8 days of sunlight for the pepper to dry completely and turn into aromatic black pepper.
While the pepper was drying, I prepared a refreshing homemade sherbet using 🍎 Rose Water Apple, 🍇 red grapes, 🌶️ fresh black pepper, and ginger. The drink turned out refreshing and everyone loved it!
After 7–8 days, once the pepper dried fully, we stored it in an airtight container. I also made fresh black pepper powder from some of the peppercorns.
Using this fresh pepper powder, I prepared a delicious Maharashtrian classic – Khamaṅg Metkut 🌶️🍚. Enjoying it with hot rice and ghee was absolutely comforting.
The next day, I used the same pepper powder to cook a flavorful Mushroom Pepper Masala 🍄🌶️. This spicy and aromatic mushroom gravy tastes amazing with bhakri.
