Chili Steak

Fast and delicious meal or fast prep and cook in the crockpot. I adjusted a lot in this recipe. I don’t know where I got it in my head that the recipe called for a Tablespoon of chili powder, because now I see that it doesn’t. I used 1-1/2 tsp. and it wasn’t spicy for me so adjust it to whether you like mild or spicy. If you wanted to use your crockpot for this, you could put all in, even the cooked beef and cook on low for 4-6 hrs. If you cook on high, you’ll probably only need to do for 2-3 hrs. All of the ingredients I added were already cooked so I basically was just heating everything up. Below is the original recipe and I’ll add my adjustments under that.

Chili Steak (from my friend Joan in Washington State)
Saute 1 clove garlic in oil
Add 4 sliced bell peppers (red and green would be pretty)
4 medium sliced onions (cut peppers and onions in chunks if you prefer)
1 can tomato sauce (16 oz)
1/2 C. hot red chili sauce or fresh red chili powder to taste
Simmer uncovered till thick and tender. Add 1-1/2 lbs to 2 lbs of cooked steak and simmer a few minutes.
OR:
1 large can tomatoes (in the blender) and omit water and put in 1 can of tomato paste (instead of the tomato sauce)
Serve over white or brown rice or maybe even quinoa might be good.

Chili Steak (What I did)
1-1/2 lbs. of steak, sliced thin and fried
1 red sweet bell pepper, sliced
1 sweet onion, sliced
1 can tomato sauce (15-16 oz.)
1/2 can water
1-1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/4-1/2 tsp. garlic powder (or you can use refrigerated minced garlic)
This gave us about 4 servings
