Ground Turkey Chili
Makes 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
3 tablespoon Olive Oil
1 – 1.5 lb Ground Turkey
2 cups Diced Onions
1 cup Diced Celery
2 cups Diced Sweet Peppers
1 Diced Jalapeno Pepper
5 Garlic Cloves, Minced
1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
1 28 oz can of diced tomatoes
1 15.5 oz can of kidney beans
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 cup Chopped Cilantro
1 tablespoon Thyme
1 tablespoon Chili Powder
1 tablespoon Cumin
2 teaspoon Dry Oregano
1-2 teaspoon Kosher Salt (to taste)
How to make:
In a large pot with heavy bottom, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil on medium heat. When the
oil starts shimmering, add the ground turkey breaking the turkey in bite size pieces.
Brown turkey on both sides occasionally stirring it in the pot. This will take about 10
minutes.
When turkey is mostly brown, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, onions, and celery. Continue cooking for 10 more minutes. Keep stirring occasionally.
When the vegetables become translucent and begin to brown, add Jalapeno and garlic. Cook
for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add Thyme, Chili Powder, Cumin, and Oregano. Stir.
Add Crushed and Dices tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, and Kidney Beans that have been rinsed.
Stir well. Bring to a boil.
Add Soy Sauce and Worcestershire Sauce. Stir. Check on seasonings. Add 1-2 teaspoons of
Kosher salt if needed.
Bring everything to a boil. Cover the pot. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 more minutes up
to 1 hour on the burner or finish cooking in the oven (please see TIP below).
TIP:
I prefer finishing my Chili in the oven. Preheat your oven to 325 F. Once Chili has come to a boil, turn off the burner and transfer the pot with Chili to the preheated oven.
Cook for 1-1.5 hours.
Garnish Chili with Cilantro before serving.
