It’s a great meal to make for lots of people or you can store leftovers in the freezer for nights you don’t feel like cooking. YOU”RE GOING TO LOVE THE SECRET INGREDIENTS – Dr. Pepper and Cinnamon!

FOR MY VEGETARIAN FRIENDS…just leave out the meat!
You can also make it with ground chicken, ground turkey, or ground pork.

RECIPE
Ingredients:
2 lbs of ground chuck (or other meats/poultry)
2-3 tablespoons of olive oil
2 teaspoons of salt
2 teaspoons of ground pepper
1 white onion chopped
1 red bell pepper chopped
1 Jalapeno pepper finely chopped
1-12 ounce can of Dr. Pepper (NOT DIET)
1- 14 ounce of beef broth (or chicken/vegetable)
2-3 tablespoons of chili powder
3 teaspoons of cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
2 (10 oz) cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes with green chili
1 small can of tomato paste
1 can of pinto beans (I used Bush’s Chili beans with all three)
1 can of dark kidney beans
1 can of white great northern beans

Garnishes:
Mexican Shredded Cheese
Sour Cream
Fresh cut Cilantro
Avocado slices
Tortilla Stips
Fritos
Jalapeno slices
Chopped red onions

Intructions: Heat a large stew pot/dutch over on med-high heat. Add oil and then add the meat. Break up the meat so there aren’t any chunks. Sprinkle in the salt and pepper. Stir in onions and cook for about 5 minutes or until meat is brown.
Reduce heat to medium low and stir in the red peppers and jalapenos. Then add the rest of the seasonings, fire roasted tomatoes and tomato paste and stir. Add in the broth and the Dr. Pepper and stir. Let simmer for 1 1/2 hours. After, drain the beans and add to pot and stire. Let this simmer for another 15-20 minutes. You can let it simmer longer for a thicker chili.
Top with your choice of garnishes. ENJOY

FOR CROCKPOT COOKING: After you brown the meat, place in the crockpot/slow cooker and continue with recipe. Add the beans an hour before done cooking. Cook 7-8 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high.
