Italian Chili/Italian Style Chili

Delicious Italian style sausage chili with robust flavors.
ITALIAN CHILI
12 oz ground beef
12 oz mild Italian sausage, casings removed
1 ½ c chopped celery, microwave with a little oil for 4 minutes
1 zucchini, peeled, cut length-wise, seeded, thinly sliced
1 ½ c chopped bell peppers, optional
1 c chopped onion
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (14 oz) can red beans, pinto, or cannellini, drained
1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 (28 oz) can diced tomatoes
¼ c pepperoni, quartered
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp oregano
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
Pepper to taste
½ – 1 c water
Grated Parmesan cheese; garnish
Brown ground beef, sausage and onion in a large Dutch oven, stirring until crumbly, drain. Add the remaining ingredients minus the water and cheese. Add enough water to give the desired consistency and mix well. Simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally. Ladle into soup bowls and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
