CHILI MUSHROOM RECIPE ✨

10-12 pcs button mushrooms, sliced in half
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, diced
1/4 cup tomato ketchup
1/4 yellow bell pepper cut into 1/2 inch chunks
1/4 red bell pepper cut into 1/2 inch chunks
1/4 green bell pepper cut into 1/2 inch chunks
1 tbsp. hoisin sauce
2 tbsp. sweet chili sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. raw sugar
1/2 tsp chili flakes

*For the toppings (optional)
chopped spring onions
sesame seeds

Method

First, boil the mushrooms in a pot for 5-8 minutes. After that, drain the water and transfer them in a large bowl. Add the cornstarch and gently toss to evenly coat the mushrooms.

Next, line them in a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.

In a non-stick pan, sauté the garlic, onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, chili flakes, ketchup, sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce, soy sauce and water. Mix them well. Let it simmer for 5 minutes or until sauce has thickened.

Add the baked mushrooms into the pan and give it a good stir. Then add the raw sugar and continue mixing for another 2 minutes making sure that the mushrooms are well coated with the sauce. Transfer in a plate and top it with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy with steamed rice.
