How to make Chili | Homemade Chili Recipe | Sunday Football Chili | Spicy Chili

There’s nothing like a good family recipe, and in our opinion, they’re meant to be shared. We like spreading butter and love, as well as the gospel of great food. This chili is so perfect for football season, family gatherings, hunting cabins or birthday parties. It’s called swamp rooster because it uses two super cool animals that live in swamps – wild turkeys and mean ol’ boars, so we combine some ground turkey sausage and ground pork with 6 different types of beans to send this chili right through the uprights. Every family recipe should have a secret ingredient, and ours is our Uncle Jim’s BBQ peppers – sweet and spicy and chock full of love. Unc is a great human, and if you’re making this, you probably are too. From our kin to yours, here’s a chili to help kick any great day off and then kick it into high gear. The longer this simmers, the better it gets, and you can cook it a day ahead of time, too.

Ingredients for Unc’s BBQ Peppers –
-1 28 oz bottle of ketchup
-1 28 oz bottle of ketchup full of water

-⅔ cup cooking oil
-2 cups white vinegar
-2 Tbsp salt
-2 small heads of garlic, chopped
-10 hungarian wax peppers

-Put them in a hot water bath for 5 minutes

-1 10oz can of diced tomatoes and green chile peppers
-1 Jar of Kev’s peppers, chopped up, and 1 cup of the liquid from the jar
-1 28 oz can of diced tomatoes
-1 15.5 oz can of tomato puree

-6 cans of assorted beans, all drained – Great Northern, Black Eyed Peas, Black Beans, Kidney Beans, and Chili Beans in sauce (don’t drain this one)
-1 red pepper diced
-1 green pepper diced
-1 medium onion diced
-1 lb of ground gianelli turkey sausage
-1 lb of ground pork, browned
-3 Tbsp of chili powder
-3 tsp salt
-½ tsp garlic powder
-½ hot red pepper flakes
-½ black pepper
-1 Tbsp of tabasco sauce
-1 tsp of dijon mustard
-1 tsp of smoked paprika
-Cornbread for serving
-Sour cream for serving
-Shredded cheddar cheese for serving
-Chopped up raw white onions for serving

Directions –
-Mix and heat all ingredients over medium heat in a large pot until peppers and onions are cooked through
-Serve in a bowl with a hunk of cornbread, and top with a dollop of sour cream and throw some cheese and raw onions on it
-Enjoy every bite

Bonus Tip – This is perfect the next day, and if you can’t get your hands on any of Unc’s peppers, chop up any nice sweet peppers you can find. This allows the user to add in as much heat as you want, and if you’re making a vegetarian version, the ground meat substitutes, like Impossible burgers, work great.
