Kala chana chaat is a tangy and tasty snack made from black chickpeas. This black chickpeas chaat Is spicy, tangy and can be hot if you add some more chilies to it.This also serves as an excellent option of Hi-Tea, Brunch starter and in Iftaar Menu.
Ingredients :
Kala Chana / Black Chickpeas 1 cup (soked overnight)
Pinch of baking soda while soaking (optional)
Salt 1 tsp
1- Drain the water and Add chickpeas in pressure cooker along with
2 cups of fresh water.
2- Lock the lid an cook till 5 to 6 whistles.
3- Release the presure naturally and open lid carefully.
4- Chana is perfectly tender, set aside with remaining water.
5- Boil 4 to 5 potatoes , cut them into small cubes and keep aside for later use.
1- Oil 1/2 cup
2- Cumin seeds 1 tsp
3- Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
4- Button Chilies 5 to 6
5- Onion 2 medium thinly sliced
6- Ginger/garlic paste 1 tsp
7- Green Chilies paste
8- Red Chili powder 1 tsp
9- Kashmiri Chili Powder 1 tsp
10-Coriander Powder 1 tsp
11-Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
12- Tomatoes 2 medium finely chopped
13- Green chilies finely chopped (as much as you like)
14- Half lemon freshly squeezed
15- Freshly chopped coriander
How to make ?
1- Heat the oil in pan. Once oil heated add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and button
chilies and let them crackle on slow flame.
2- Once aroma comes onions in oil and saute till onions turn golden brown.
3- Add ginger garlic paste saute a little and then add green chilies paste
and mix well.
4- Add red chili powder, kashmiri chili powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder.
5- Add 1/4 cup water in pan and roast masala on medium high flame until water dries-up.
6- Add tomatoes in pan and mix well.
7- Cover the pan for few minutes, cook until tomatoes tender and oil separates from gravy.
8- Now add boiled chickpes in prepared gravy and mix with light hands.
9- Cook on high flame until gravy look dry and all the moisture dries-up.
10- Add boiled potatoes in chickpeas along with green chilies, lemon juice and coriander.
11- Give it a good mix to combine everything well.
12- Dish-out and garnish with chopped tomatoes and coriander.
