Hi,in this video we can see how to make chow chow kootu curry in Tamil.
CHOW CHOW KOOTU | CHAYOTE KOOTU
INGREDIENTS
Chayote (chow chow ) – 300 gms
onion – 1
tomato – 1
grated coconut – ½ cup
moong dal – ¼ cup
chana dal – ¼ cup
dried red chili – 1
green chili – 3
cumin – ½ tsp
urad dal – ½ tsp
turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
pepper corn – ¼ tsp
garlic cloves – 2
asafoetida
mustard
curry leaves
water
salt
oil
METHOD OF PREPARATION
1.Soak ¼ cup moong dal and ¼ cup chana dal for an hour.
2.In a pressure cooker take 300 gms chayote,soaked dal.Add 1½ cup water,¼ tsp turmeric powder,asafoetida,2 garlic cloves and required salt.Cook on medium flame unto 3 whistles.
3.In a mixy jar take ½ cup grated coconut,¼ tsp pepper corn,3 green chilies and ½ tsp cumin.Grind them.
4.In a pan, heat some oil,splutter a few mustard and add ½ tsp urad dal,1 dried red chili and some curry leaves.
5.Saute 1 onion until it becomes golden brown.When it becomes golden brown add 1 tomato and continue to saute until it’s well cooked and soft.
6.Open the cooker after the pressure goes.Add the sauteed onion tomato and the coconut paste.Mix well.
7.Add ½ cup water and let it boil for about 5 minutes on low flame.At last add some curry leaves for a nice flavor.
