Today we made chili with the Studio 406 Provisions Smoked Habanero & Cumin Hot Sauce and our Chili Seasoning Blend.
And yes, there’s a little booger in my nostril in the intro. See if you can spot it!
Recipe:
-1 tbsp. olive oil
-1 large onion – roughly chopped
-2 poblano peppers
-8 cloves of garlic – minced
-2 pounds meat – I suggest using the steak taco meat from your local mercado but regular ground beef will work just fine
-1/4 cup Studio 406 Provisions chili seasoning blend (available for sale soon!)
-1 tbsp. Studio 406 Provisions Smoked Habanero & Cumin Hot Sauce
-1 28oz can good quality crushed tomatoes
-2 15oz cans black beans – rinsed and drained
-2 cups beef stock
-salt and pepper to taste
For Garnish:
-corn chips
-sharp cheddar cheese – freshly grated
-sour cream
-green onions – chopped
1. Add the oil to a large heavy pot or dutch oven over medium heat.
2. When the oil is shimmering, add the meat and brown it.
3. Reserve the meat in a bowl and keep the fat in the pot.
4. Add the onions and pepper.
5. Once the onions are translucent, add in the sliced garlic and cook just until the garlic is fragrant.
6. Add the meat back and cook for another minute or two.
5. Add in the chili seasoning blend and cook until spices have bloomed and a bit of fond is beginning to build up on the bottom of the pot.
6. Deglaze the pot with a few splashes of the beef stock.
7. Add in the tomatoes, the rest of the stock, the beans and the hot sauce
8. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer and cook with the lid on slightly vented until the chili reaches your desired consistency – usually
about 1 and a half to 2 hours for me. You can use this time to play with your dog, pay bills or write out your manifesto.
9. When the chili is thickened up, season it to taste with salt and pepper and serve it in a bowl over a handful of corn chips. Top it with the shredded cheddar, sour cream and green onions.
