Cast Iron Chili Recipe With Beans (A Simple Deer Chili Recipe For 2020)

Cast iron chili is a favorite of mine and I make it regularly. But, unlike some folks, I make my cast iron chili with beans.

Chili has many variations of recipes using everything from ground beef, deer or venison, to chicken, and everything in between. This just happens to be a simple deer chili recipe.

As you will see, this really is an easy chili recipe to make. Many cast iron chili recipes require cooking on an open fire, and you could do that. But, for this video, we show you how to make chili, not on an open fire, but at home, on the stovetop, in a 10-inch dutch oven.

Since this is a venison chili recipe and not what some would call classic chili, not everyone will like it.

Me, on the other hand… I think it is the best chili recipe ever!!

Cast Iron Chili Recipe With Beans:

Ingredients:
2-3 tbsp bacon grease or lard
2 pounds of ground deer meat **(optional 1 pound ground deer meat and 1 pound ground beef)**
1 large yellow onion chopped
1 tbsp minced garlic
2 cans of stewed tomatoes or homemade stewed tomatoes
1 can of tomato juice
1 can of beef broth
4 tbsp of chili powder
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground oregano
1 tbsp salt
** optional 1 jalapeno seeded and chopped**

Cooking Instructions:

1. Heat bacon grease in the Lodge 5 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven. 
2. Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and half of the salt. Cook down for a minute or two and then add the deer meat.
3. Fry the deer meat until completely cooked.
4. Add the stewed tomatoes, half of the beef broth, and half of the tomato juice. Mix and stir the mixture.
5. Add the chili powder, cumin, oregano, and remaining salt and mix well.

6. Add additional beef broth and tomato juice as needed. Be careful not to get it too juicy.
7. Bring to a rolling boil and reduce the temperature. Let simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
8. Enjoy a super bowl of this awesome cast iron chili!!
