Welcome to Rookie at Best! In today’s episode, I will be demonstrating how to create the perfect winter day meal – chili! This recipe is a simple chili recipe that everyone in the family is bound to love. There is no frills when it comes to this chili. Just comfort. The recipe and ingredients are below.
Ingredients:
~1.5 lbs of ground beef (can substitute with ground turkey or chicken)
2 cans of dark red kidney beans
1 can of rotel tomatoes with green chiles
1 15oz can of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons of chili powder
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
1/2 tablespoon of sugar
A pinch of salt
1 large white onion
Vegetable oil
1. You will want to set your stove top to medium-high heat, once the pan has began to warm, add a splash of vegetable oil.
2. Dice your onion into fine pieces and add them to the pan. You will want the onions to give off a yellow/brown color before you add the meat.
3. Once the onions have started to change color, add your meat. Stir occasionally to evenly brown the meat.
4. In a separate pot, add your dark red kidney beans, rotel, tomato sauce, sugar and spices, and mix together.
5. Add your pot to the stove top, and let the mixture begin to warm up by setting the heat to medium.
6. Once your meat has turned brown, remove any excess grease and add to the chili mixture.
7. Once all the ingredients have been combined into one pot, bring to a boil.
8. After the mixture begins to boil, set the heat to a simmer/low. Cover your pot and let simmer for 30 minutes.
Enjoy!
