Taco Bell

I miss lava sauce too much… So I made a recipe to end all other recipes.

So I spent a year developing the recipe. Some of my friends called me insane, others, a hero. But after a year of testing dozens of recipes, I realized the answer was in front of me the whole time… It helped that they brought it back a month or so ago, as I was able to do side by side comparisons.

While others roasted jalapeños and used questionable dried cheese powder from the internet, I discovered the three ingredients that make lava sauce.

-ONE PART, Velveeta cheese sauce packet (the ones you find in their Mac and cheese. Or if you want this 100% authentic, order a few sides of nacho cheese from TB)

-ONE PART, Mild Sauce. Yes. Mild. It’s got the right flavor for the sauce.

-Cayenne powder to spice it up (or use a packet of Diablo sauce for 100% authenticity).

Many of my friends and family have told me that this recipe is the closest to the lava sauce they’ve had.

Let me know if you try it and how it tastes!

(Yes I know I call it volcano sauce. Sorry. Always have. I know it’s Lava sauce…)

There are a lot of people that claim Lava Sauce is the Taco Bell nacho cheese sauce mixed with Diablo. It isn’t. It also isn’t that plus Mild Sauce. It’s cheesy with some zip, so it’s similar in that sense, but it doesn’t really have the same overall flavor profile, scent or texture.

Honestly, if it did, there’d be no reason to even have lava sauce to begin with because people would have been inadvertently making it for years when they add sauce packets to any item with nacho cheese sauce, basically.

That being said.. it may never come back. Or if it does, it’ll probably just be for another limited time period, so.. it’s good you’ve found something that’s close enough for you that you enjoy.

  2. Lava Sauce is mayo-based (it’s basically a cheesy salad dressing).
