Bland? I know we all have nostalgia for the 90’s taco bell decor but it’s pretty dated and tacky these days

Get in there and start painting the toilet bowls

Ours too. Idk how they added even more echo to the space but they did. It’s like being in an IKEA cafeteria

The Taco Bell by my house is the same design since the 80s

My local was closed for a remodel too. Looks the same in dining room. Assuming kitchen was a big part of that.
Also, it still says closed in the app eventhough they’ve been open for weeks.

I live in Tucson, and this town is littered with old buildings that all used to be Taco Bells. It’s really obvious when you see it. Now they’re all actual Mexican food places, like Filiberto’s or Rigoberto’s or Los Betos.

My belief is that they are doing this to discourage people from eating inside, in order to save money by reducing labor. Additionally, it increases resale value of the building
RchUncleSkeleton
The taco bell by my house closed about 3 weeks ago for “remodeling”, but right now it’s completely stripped and just wood at this point. Pretty sure it’s gonna look like this one once they’re done.

I mean rhey definitely could of not kept the white wall but business does this for a reason.

It’s got that sterile chipotle look 😔

You guys eat inside a fast food restaurant? In 2023?
dogman1890
Taco Bell and McDonalds are both on a race to the bottom to discourage customers from eating in. Last time I ate in at either was 2018 and the seats were so uncomfortable and it was so dirty.

Ours got remodeled back in 2015. It took over three months and when it reopened, the drive-thru line stretched all the way across the parking lot and into the road. Initially, everyone thought the remodel was refreshing and badly needed, which, to be fair, it probably was. Now, however, everyone misses 90s TB. Interestingly, I learned from briefly working there that it still has a couple of the old dining room chairs in the manager’s office.

What’s the deal with fast food places making the furniture all industrial and extremely uncomfortable to sit at

You posted pictures at a distance, through the window? Grainy and blurry pictures at that? 🙄

They just throw boards and wallpaper everything. Idk why it takes them so long. The facade fell off of the front of the cash registers at a “renovated” Taco Bell in my town and it revealed that underneath was the old 90’s/00’s style counter in pristine condition.

Fucking awful

At least you still have it. One of ours was closed for ‘remodeling’ and ended up razed to the ground instead.
lincolnlogtermite
I miss the faux adobe look they had of the 60-70s. At least it was eye catching and on point. I haven’t been to one in years so if they continue this bland tasteless style that matches the food, doesn’t bother me.

They changed the colors to white so you can see the dirt and crumbs better

Commercial and to certain extent residential interior design has become inoffensive as possible. The only criteria is to make it look industrial and make it sound like you are eating in an aluminum canister going over Niagara falls.
It’s a broad cultural thing, but I think the biggest driver is real estate prices. If Taco Bell makes the store excessively unique it will diminish the value of the property to subsequent owners. All companies are thinking like this. That’s why it looks like a Chipotle or any other place.
In the 1980 and 90’s the real estate was not going to be more valuable than establishing the intellectual property of the brand, so we would see unique design everywhere.

They need to bring back 90s decor
lizard412
Taco bell has mastered the art of making their restaurants more bland and unattractive every time they remodel or replace a store.
Although like someone mentioned, I think the real answer is that they want them to be clean but uninviting to eat inside. They seem to be designed to make you not want to eat inside and to spend as little time there as humanly possible if you do eat inside.

Where is it let’s review bomb it to let them know. Somehow we have to be able to let these companies know.

there is something SO INCREDIBLY comforting about the 80’s taco bell design. as a kid, i remember whenever my mom would take me out and we would get Taco Bell and eat inside the dining room. my favorite part was looking at every single detail of each poster and all the wacky designs traced all along the walls.
also, fuck modernism.

I miss the 80’s and 90’s aesthetics. They were tacky as hell but makes me think of being a kid. Things look so sterile and boring now.

It seems like almost everywhere has been moving to that ugly industrial color palette lately. It’s terrible.

Taco Bell is supposed to be the fun uncle of the fast food world. This is the uncle who puts plastic over the furniture and guests only get to sit on it once a year.
