The cantina menu apologists keep insisting the soft taco is better than the crispy one, so I decided to try it.
Good:
It’s pretty with the colorful cabbage and pico
Bad:
Not much chicken
Cabbage is kind of bitter
Pico tasted just like the tomatoes
Green salsa is revolting
Overall it was about the same as the crispy one, which is to say just OK. I couldn’t taste the green salsa the first time because of all the sauce on my taco. That was apparently a blessing in disguise. This stuff is aggressively acidic and just not good at all to me ymmv.
This is the nail in the coffin on the cantina menu for me. Those who enjoy it: I’m happy for you but it’s not for me.
Chipotle chicken flatbread:
Good: you could modify it to make a Gordita I guess
Bad:
Can taste the chicken too much and it does not taste good
That stuff needs to be drowned in sauce
The seasoning just tastes weird
I don’t know if it had some kind of artificial smoke flavor or what but something aggressively artificial tasting
Would not order again.
New vs old chicken:
If the old is a 2, I’d give the new a 2.5 after trying them side by side
On to the more positive: I used a $2 off $10 promo
I got the cantina chicken soft taco, value menu nacho, cheesy double beef burrito, and chipotle chicken flatbread for $10 plus tax after the promo. Thats a lot of food for $10. More than I could eat in one go.
I hope TB does more of these kinds of promos because it provides flexibility. Want a lot of bang for your buck? Get the value menu. Want that combo that’s normally 10-12 dollars? Now it’s a more reasonable 8-10.
Obligatory nachos photo for scale and because are you even on this sub if you don’t post a nachos photo?
