Usually places do that so you won’t buy a bunch of orders of two and instead buy a pack of twelve. It’s why my local diner charges 4 dollars for a side of bacon. They don’t want you buying a bunch of stuff a la carte.

I hear ya on them being overpriced. That said I would happily pay that price if they were consistently fresh and hot and perfect. But they aren’t. So instead I pay it begrudgingly because I need my perfectly sized cinnamon sugar and cream cheese frosting fix.
