This is an old video repost.. I made this ages ago and haven’t made it since just because I forgot about it! Zippy’s is a local eatery in Hawaii. I liked the idea of possibly being able to clone or copy the recipe and when I saw this recipe published in our local paper, I had to try it. It is not the same thing but still a very good chili
4 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 pound lean ground beef (71 percent beef or more)
1 onion, very finely chopped
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, pureed, with liquid
1 (15-ounce) can red kidney beans, with liquid
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 tablespoon beef base (Minor’s, Better Than Bouillon) or 2 bouillon cubes
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 cup mayonnaise
In a Dutch oven or large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat 2 teaspoons vegetable oil and brown beef; break up beef into its smallest components. Pour into bowl and reserve. Heat remaining vegetable oil and fry onion over medium heat, until limp and golden. Transfer beef to pot along with pureed tomato sauce, pinto beans, red kidney beans, chili powder, beef base, brown sugar and garlic salt. Bring to a boil, then turn heat down to medium or medium-low and simmer 15 minutes. Stir in mayonnaise and heat through. Taste and correct seasonings.
Serves 4-6.

@edenbainbridge oh yes and no mayo, sour cream yes mayo no
lol
xoexo
(With tongue firmly planted in cheek) Are you sure this is the right cut of burger for chili? You can ask your butcher to grind it again and it makes it better! LMAO! Another good recipe Beth!
I never thought of using a sort of bean sauce instead of tomato for the base. Interesting. I dunno about that mayo thing. Have to think about that one. We always serve corn bread with ours too – I halfway expected rice! LOL.
Looks great ! I would have to sneak the mayo in since hubby hates mayo but I always sneak things in he doesn't like and he never knows it's in there.Great recipe Beth !
This looks tasty….just missing the mac salad. LOL I've been looking for a clone for Zippy's chili for eons and was hoping that you found it! Oh well, the quest goes on.
I enjoy the fact that with every video you put out I am able to recognize your favourite mixing spoon 🙂 <3
@CookingAndCrafting Ahhh, it would be quite different than sour cream – I get it. It's interesting. Next time I make chili, this recipe is going to get a try! 🙂
Interesting recipe. I like the idea of the pureed pintos, and I'm a bit iffy about mayo. Mayo? In a chili?
Next cute trick would be to go subversive and find out exactly which sneaky and subtle sekrit process Zippy's is using that no-one has figgered out yet.
I love your videos! You are prob one of my top fave youtubers to watch : ) This looks amazing btw
I miss eating zippy's chili. Next time we come down we gotta do a Zippy's run. LIMP is usually not good for guys, but I guess it is good for food huh? haha. Ok thanks for telling me it was "NO CIGAR" because I was close to getting up and making it. I didn't know they put mayo in there.
I bet if you use sour cream instead of mayo it would work too! I love mayo but the idea of putting it in chili is scary lol! I too also love rice with my chili also! Macaroni noodles works also.
Omg mahalo for making thus vid ! Yay
Mayonnaise?
nice heart attack
LIM-POP and GOOOOOOLLLLLDEN
Wait.. there's kidney beans in Zippy's chili?
Peanut butter is one of zippy's main secret ingredients. This has no PB.
you sure? wouldn't there be a peanut allergy warning if they did use peanut butter?
I Know! I recently heard about the use of peanut butter and warned my friends since they were highly allergic, but they said they couldn't have added PB since they ate it many times already.
i heard that cinnamon is a secret ingredient in zippy's chili 🙂
Mmm since I've never been to Zippy's I'm excited to try this! 🙂 Mahalo for sharing!
Hawaiians, we put mayo in our chili. try it. its good
Hello, what if we cannot puree the pinto beans? Would it still taste the same if we didn't puree it?
ahahha i can hear da doves cooing in da background
I worked at zippys and DA chilli don't look like to that. oh boy
I use pork and beans…mashed up…and mayo das old news
And not dat much tomato sauce comes to soup like..paste betta
Can't believe that I tried this. Sorry to say, but it wasn't even near close. Too much mayo taste that killed the actual chili flavor which it never had to begin with. All that pinto beans along with the mayo turned it all to a pale color.
I use pork and bean puree..im gonna try pinto beans…mayo yes automatic…i also use green peppers with the onions..
Mahalo..
No measurements?
Oh god
nice
Omg mahalo sis i making this tonight for dinner yummm❤
