Try this Super BASIC Chili Recipe | Crocktober Soup Series | Farmish Kind of Life

Get ready for today’s Crocktober Soup Series selection: chili! My husband doesn’t like spicy food, so this recipe is pretty mild. Rest assured, though, you can pump up the heat if you’d like! This is a very basic and easy chili recipe for the slow cooker or right on the stove. Feel free to doctor it up! (Video also includes recipe for cornbread – the perfect side for a bowl of chili!)

INGREDIENTS (approximate)
2 lbs ground beef
1 green pepper
1 onion
2 (15 oz ) cans diced tomatoes (do not drain)
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce (or 1 quart homemade)
2 (15 oz) cans dark red kidney beans
2 envelopes chili seasoning (mild if you want it and can find it)
¼ cup to ½ cup sugar (optional, cuts the acidity of the tomatoes)

  1. My brother lives in Texas and they make their chili with steak, not ground beef and without beans and enough spice to burn the hair out of your nose when you sniff the pot. I much prefer your recipe.

  2. Like my wife said after 45 MINUTES at her first Coffee Appreciation/Roasting/Barista/Cupping demo – "I JUST WANT A CUP OF COFFEE!!"

  3. Soooo……. Pie-vember? lol And in Canada (or Manitoba, at least), they're called casseroles lol and as much as I like cornbread, I prefer THICK buttermilk biscuits with my thick chili lol and oddly enough, we had chili tonight, but with both of us sore from working hard all day (and my wife taking a freezer lid to the back yesterday while defrosting a freezer), the biscuits sadly didn't make it on the menu tonight.
