As a Texan, I prefer my chili the traditional way which is to focus on the flavor from the chilies and to load it with tons of meat. I know there are plenty of folks that prefer beans in their chili, so I decided to augment my popular Texas Chili recipe by removing the chuck roast and adding two types of beans.
This recipe makes a big ole batch of chili. Depending on the size of your family, you may want to cut the recipe in half. All of the ingredients are already cooked, so you only need to simer it for 3 hours. However, we find it best when simmered all day. Actaully, it’s even better the next day after it is refrigerated over night. This recipe will require a large slow cooker or dutch oven. It has a medium spiciness level. You can adjust that by adding more or less chili seasoning and chipotle peppers in adobo.

Here in Minnesota, I take care of business in the "Men's Crisis Center" at temps as low as -0 degrees. Great content as always Matt!
beans in chili is the best, can't change my mind. props to you for trying it out.
Last weekend I made some over the top chili with beans, venison, and beef. It was so good. The only thing lacking was heat. I used poblanos and they were very mild. I have several really good hot sauces so that was easy to fix. Next time I'll use jalapenos.
Your Momma got the food budget for the week and she needs to add beans to the chili. Shut up and eat your dinner. đ
At least this week, we got some meat in our chili.
Don't forget to put corn in the Chili
I love pinto beans in my chili but i drain and wash the beans before they go into the chili. Also, I wait until the last 15-20 minutes of cooking because the beans are already cooked. They just need to be warmed up in the chili. Serve with cheese, Fritos and chopped onion and you have a winner!
I do enjoy my chili with beans. I usually go with the pinto and black beans as the red seems to be a little more firm than I like
Iâm bean guy here. I love making my chili with the MC chili seasoning, black beans AND kidney beans, ground beef, and most recently Iâve added chunks of ribeye. The ribeye was a game changer. So much better.
if and when i do beans = 2 lb meat, 2 cans of beans.
LOLOL I'm glad to ran the recipe; I've followed/known you a long time, I honestly never thought you'd do a version of any of yours with the beans included. That said, this recipe is amazing & as you mentioned, by no means is it a "meat soup"…however, I've made this recipe since you released it & I always make it with kidney beans, because that's how we make chili in Chicagoland. I don't personally leave out the cubed chuck roast (or stew meat is also good) & I change the breakfast sausage to hot Italian sausage – it's perfection and I'm about to run a batch next weekend!
Glad to see y'all back from the break!!
No it's chill without any fillers. That's why it's called chili "with" beans. If you want to add beans so be it. But chili doesn't have beans.
Beans or else itâs not chili but coney sauce. I use black beans or kidney beans.
Beans make it better. They just do, but hold the pasta please. There are some things that just don't belong…
Im guessing you guys have a store front in the square. Ill stop by sometime and check it out.
Beanless chili ranks right up there with Canadian bacon
How about just beef ground meat… Not wild game frozen for how long??? Not a fair comparison IMHO
I'll do beans occasionally. My son likes it that way and I think it is fine. The majority of the time it is no beans. I ain't even from Texas its just my preference.
I usually make pot of beens and a pot of chilie and they can put been's in there chile if they want.
When I got the email, I knew I was gonna thumb this down. But I couldnât do that to you Mr. Pittman. We appreciate you having an open mind in these divisive days. Nah!!!
Here in Sacramento Iâm always fighting the no bean fight!!
Keep up your good work – I appreciate my stash of MC seasonings
Great video! Always put beans in my chili, it reminds me when my dad used to make it for me. Now please pass the buffalo trace đ I cannot find any here.
Yum
What size is your Dutch oven?
Thanks for the video. We use all 3 beans, black, kidney & pinto also use venison as well. Add, diced tomatoes, tomato paste and Meat Church chili seasoning, and it turns out great! Add sour cream, cheese and tortilla chips. Enjoy.
Most people who are "beans or die" in their chili probably use a can of hormel chili in their so-called chili recipe, lol!
Hey Matt, great video as always. I do want to point out that the background music was more pronounced in right ear with earbuds in. I would recommend production balances background music to be equally balanced if using headphones. Keep up the awesome videos!
zzzzzz don't jump the shark with this. moving on
Diff strokes for diff folks. I like both, got raised on both, will always love both. End the chili prejudiced lol
Midwesterner here, I was raised with beans, and the day after reheating it out of the fridge is even better, something magical happens. Add a PB and J sandwich or a grilled cheese, forget about it.
This may sound terrible to many, but I add mushrooms, apple cider vinegar, a couple of green bell peppers, a couple of jalapeĂąos, and a 2/3 cup of brown sugar to this recipe and it adds a sweet heat and slightly chewy texture to my chili. We love sweet heat like many of the congregation does! Give it a try sometime. Or donât. Whatever.
Spaghetti under chili is Cincinnati chili.
Great to have you back, Matt!!! I havenât been able to cook outdoors for 19 days, due to power outages, high winds & low humidityâŚExtreme Fire Danger!!
Not to mention, COLD AF!!
Iâm in Meiners Oaks, Ca.
Last night was the first cook Iâve done outsideâŚNY steak on the Traeger Pro22. I used Holy Gospel & Blanco, and rendered butter with MC garlic and herb w some W sauce!!!
Finished it off on my flat top griddleâŚ.UnBelievable!!!
Thanks for the great channel!!đŞđťđđťđ
GO REDSKINS!!!!đ¤Š
No no no. As a Yankee from Buffalo NY beans and sugar DO NOT go in a proper chili. I was raised on both and take them out the flavor is MUCH better!!! Your TX chili recipe is amazing as it is!!!
9:57 "I mean it's good. Because I cooked it" đđ
Also I visited your store this week for the first time being in Texas from PA because of work. It's a beautiful store Matt! Keep doing what you do man I learn so much from these videos and content you create
If there's no beans, it's just meat sauce. Add spaghetti.
As a fellow bourbon drinker and griller, I would like to add a bourbon that I'm sure you are aware of. Buffalo Trace is delicious, but you have a bourbon made in the great state of Texas that is phenomenal. I'm talking about Ironroot Republic Harbinger. Neat, it is fantastic. Add an ice cube, just one. It opens up a whole new flavor experience as said cube melts. Give it a try, if you haven't already.
It's just spicy meat sauce without beans.
Apparently, I had to much bourbon last night and already commented. I need adult supervision. I apologize.
It's the current situation of people getting offended by farts!
Who's out there making basic chili without beans?
@meatchurchbbq how do i get one of your bottle picks?
Chili with beans is heresy
Just don't call it Texas chili when you add beans. Its just chili with beans. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?
