Around the Table with Jolene: A Quick & Easy Turkey Chili Recipe – 8/25/25

Weeknight Chili – Serves 4

Ingredients

1 pound ground turkey (can use ground beef, if desired)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 medium onion, chopped, about 1 cup

2 rounded teaspoons chili powder

2 rounded teaspoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 to 2 teaspoons salt

14.5-ounce can beef broth, divided

15.5-ounce can mild chili beans

30.5-ounce can quick chili mix (such as Brooks brand) 14.5-ounce can petite diced tomatoes, optional

1 tablespoon brown sugar, optional

Instructions

In a heavy stock pot or Dutch oven, cook the ground turkey in the vegetable oil over medium heat, breaking the turkey apart with a wooden spoon. Add chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until turkey is cooked through and onions have softened. Drain turkey and return to pot.

Add chili powder, cocoa powder, cumin, oregano and a teaspoon of salt, stirring well to coat turkey in spices. Add 1 cup of the beef stock, stirring to combine.

Add chili beans and chili mix and stir well to combine. Add can of petite diced tomatoes and brown sugar, if using. Add additional beef stock, if desired.

Stir well and simmer until heated through. Adjust seasoning, adding a bit more salt if needed.
