Hello /r/spicy!
I decided to make some plain grilled chicken and try out all of my sauces and rank them based on heat and flavor and do a quick first impressions of each.
[Here’s all the sauces I will be including in this list](https://imgur.com/gallery/S8TvyQH)
Without further ado, here is what I have so far:
#Tapatio
* Heat Level: 2/10
* Flavor: 6/10
* A staple for sure. Delicious intense pepper flavor, not vinegary at all. Slight garlic after taste
#Frank’s Original
* Heat Level: 1/10
* Flavor: 6/10
* The classic flavor that hits just right. Can’t really go wrong with this sauce. Super yummy, but too much vinegar. Very hard to detect any garlic.
#First We Feast The Classic
* Heat Level: 0/10
* Flavor: 6/10
* sweet, slightly fruity, delicious, garlic at the forefront, slight earthy flavors
#Cholula Original
* Heat Level 1/10
* Flavor 6/10
* just a pure pepper garlic sauce. It’s a perfect blend of peppers and garlic. I go for this when I want a nondescript “hot sauce” and i mean that in the best way possible
#Cholula Chili Garlic
* Heat Level 0/10
* Flavor 5/10
* GARLIC. Fun fact: I was out of garlic and garlic powder when I moved into my apartment, so I just used this instead! Allll garlic, nothing else really
#Louisiana The Perfect Hot Sauce
* Heat Level 0/10
* Flavor 5/10
* Just like Franks, but a bit less vinegar to be honest. Just doesn’t hit the same as franks
#First We Feast Los Calientes
* Heat Level 3/10
* Flavor 9/10
* My fav medium sauce. Fruity, sweet, unique flavor. Earthy pepper flavor, smoky, tangy, will def be reloading this one
#El Yucateco verde
* Heat Level 5/10
* Flavor 7/10
* Deep, rich flavor. All peppers, not much else. Yummy fermented flavor
#El Yucateco red
* Heat Level 6/10
* Flavor 9/10
* HABANERO!!! Really deep and rich flavor like the verde, but just exploads when it hits your tongue. It’s sooo good
#El Yucateco XXXTRA Hot
* Heat Level 7/10
* Flavor 7.5/10
* Smoke, maybe a little umami, habanero towards the end. Tangy, satisfying flavor. Mostly smokey tho. First sauce to make me sweat
#Melinda’s Original Habanero XXXTRA Hot Pepper Sauce
* Heat Level 5/10
* Flavor 7/10
* up front umami hit mixed with sublte but present habanero flavor. Sweet vegetable flavors as well. Nice subtle sauce. Lasting heat tingle, but not intense
#Grace Hot Pepper Sauce Very Hot
* Heat Level 3.5/10
* Flavor 2/10
* Tastes like if a knock off brand tried to make their best tobasco (classic) clone. They succeeded in that, but too bad I don’t care for tabasco. Also is definitely not “very hot”
#Trader Joe’s Habanero Sauce
* Heat Level 7/10
* Flavor 5/10
* OK I don’t like this sauce lol. It’s still tasty, but for some reason it doesn’t work for me. It’s like if you took all the great flavors from a habanero and took them out, leaving only the heat, and the OK flavors. Like I said, still yummy (see how much of it ive had lol) but not much more than heat. and it is HOT for a hab sauce. I always end up coming back to it tho for some reason.
I have got a bunch more sauces to test, but I think I’m all hot sauced out for right now 😀 I plan on posting part 2 tomorrow, which will include the really hot stuff. oh boy. that’s gonna be fun!
Hope you enjoyed! Do you agree with this or is there anything you’d change/add? Let me know!
