I have a large pile of very thin wood shavings (not sawdust although it does appear like that in the photo of seasoned hardwood.
I live in a rented apartment so no compost bin to chuck this into but was wondering if I should keep it and sprinkle it on top of the pepper plants that I’ll be potting up soon.
Or just chuck away?

I wood worry about holding moisture near the stem and encouraging rot, it also might just mold on the surface. I would trash, but compost would love it.
