The original King Taco location in Cypress Park is poised to become a designated Historic-Cultural Monument by the City of Los Angeles

The original, 50-year-old storefront is located at 1118 N. Cypress Avenue in Cypress Park.
History: Founders Raúl and Lupe Martinez began the business in 1974 by converting an ice cream truck into a mobile taqueria before building the brick-and-mortar location.
The site is recognized for its role in shifting L.A. away from Americanized hard-shell tacos toward authentic soft-shell tacos.
The Cultural Heritage Commission voted unanimously to recommend the site for historic status, with final City Council approval expected in late April 2026.
