You guys taught me that chilli isn’t Mexican. Please tell me burritos are?
Trying again for something more actually mexican than my last attempt. But you guys don't know how hard it is to figure out mexican cooking from a village in middle England
Tried to add recipe, but Reddit started bugging out on me and I could type anything else.
It’s basically pork slow braised in chicken stock, loads of different chillis, cumin, coriander, paprika, mustard and oregano.
Rice is first toasted then cooked in garlic, chicken stock, fresh tomatoes, spring onions, coriander, scotch bonnets (I know not mexican but they are gorgeous) and cumin seeds.

Chili and burritos originated in Mexico but were popularized by Tex-Mex cuisine. Chili originated in Monterrey, and Burritos originated in Chihuahua, both close to the Texas border.

Burritos like this are technically American, Californian specifically. However, I donโt necessarily think itโs fair that if a Mexican person moves to another country then invents a food that it suddenly isnโt Mexican anymore.

I think you have the spirit of it. Itโs hard to know about flavor or authenticity from a picture but the most important thing is that you enjoyed it.

Burritos were made first in either Texas or California, but theyโve been in Mexico for awhile now

Burritos are Mexican, but this one looks Mexican-American.

We have burritos in northern mexico, but we donโt put rice in them. Itโs usually a single filling, like seasoned chicken or beef or chicharron, sometimes also add beans.
This blog is great and explains recipes in detail along with substitution suggestions for things hard to find outside of Mexico
All that said, what you made looks utterly delicious! Itโs tough to experiment with a foreign cuisine when you donโt have a local to teach you, nor access to all the ingredients

Burritos are originally from Chihuahua. Southern Mexican will tell you they are American, but they are ignorant, don’t listen to them.
But there are American-style Burritos, specifically California and Texas style Burritos. They are not considered Mexican but Mexican-American fusion food.
Rule of thumb, authentic Mexican Burritos generally don’t have yellow American cheese in them (they can have Mexican cheeses such as Asadero, Oaxaca, Chihuahua cheese, Panela, Quesillo), they don’t have whole beans on them (they might have a very thin layer of refried beans or Frijoles puercos), they don’t have rice in them, they are not covered in sauce.
