Dutch Buckets – Watering schedules?

Just finished setting up my Dutch buckets. This is “temporary” set up while I build a 12’x7’ grow room in my basement but my question will remain.

I’m trying to get some opinions on using drip emitters vs open 1/4 OD tubes directly in the soil. Obviously this changes the run time/frequency of my pump/irrigation schedule.

Anybody have experience growing peppers (mostly C. Capsicums) in Dutch buckets. I get about 500ml/min with an open line. Other thought was to run 2x 0.5GPH emitters in each bucket.

Note – there will be additional light(s) in the tent. I love this HLG 550v2 R spec light that I snagged on marketplace for $160

Thanks!

I did dutch buckets in a greenhouse environment for peppers and tomatoes and had success with starting at 5-6 minutes of watering every 12 hours, then every 8 hrs as they veg/get bigger, then finally every 4 hours during flowering and summer heat.

    Hope this helps!

I’ve never done Dutch buckets, but with open lines, the flow rate is impacted by the restriction of the lines themselves. So you can test by running the system with no emitters and measure the amount at each site, or just get drip emitters that should ensure each site gets the same amount of nutrient solution.
