Beefy Mac & Tomatoes
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced (approximately 2 teaspoons)
32 ounce can diced tomatoes, with juice
1/2 cup chili sauce
2 cups water
2 Tablespoons beef base
8 ounce box elbow macaroni
salt & pepper to taste
Brown and chop the hamburger. Drain well. Add the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions soften, about 3 – 5 minutes.
Add the diced tomatoes with the juice, chili sauce, water, and beef base. Simmer five minutes.
Add pasta and stir to combine. Cover and cook on medium low just until the pasta is tender, about six minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Its called goulash
Instead of water use tomato juice
There’s no wrong way to make goulash. My son uses manwich sauce and it’s actually pretty good
We call this American chopsuey!
That shit’s like beef Roni in a can Chef Boyardee
I Love meals like these. Great comfort food on a cold day
Thank you I love this and finally found the recipe ❤❤❤❤
My mama ate that chili sauce with link sausage and sauerkraut… and, yes, she would have argued, but I believe you… ketchup and garlic powder for sure.
My family been eating like that for years we grew up with things like that.we we're not rich so we did simple cooking. There are lots of things people don't know about that.AND WE HAD A BIG FAMILY WE HAD TO MAKE THINGS STRETCH..SOME TIMES I SILL COOK THAT WHEN I WANT A FAST MEAL.
Yeah, my mom made this. We just called it "Stuff".
Many other people have said this, but, GOULASH. We eat it quite often.
Suggestions: any brand but Hunts tomatos.
Tomato juice instead of water.
Garam Masala with your choice seasoning.
Tomato paste rather than the tomato chili.
Diced peppers are an option for some also.
Waters only necessary if you put the pasta in dry.
My gram use to make this for me when i was young. I still make it at twise a month. I love it
I think every mom in the 1970s had their own version of this
we kids knew when the street lights came on it was time to get home for dinner 😂
Wow. I didn’t have beef base so I substituted beef broth for the water. Had penne pasta instead of elbows and used ketchup. Added tomato juice. It’s so good!!! And easy. One pot meal. My husband loved it as well. Parmesan cheese before serving. Again….. Wow!!!!! Thanks Tom and Melissa ❤
Our version is called American chop suey. It was actually a recipe we have from a 1950’s Westinghouse cookbook.
My granny called that goulash.
Sometimes granny Hays would put some diced potatoes in it. She was born in 1920
All those poor Tomas without their toes!
Thanks. My mother in law has been asking for this very dish. Ill make it for her next visit.
Don't add tomato juice to make it soupier. Add a hot sauce of your choice, mild to extra hot. Trust me!
I make this goulash and with some homemade cornbread or some crackers.
Goulash 😁
I received your cookbook today and wanted you and Mellisa to know I think it's fabulous.
It is much more than I expected. Congratulations on a fine publication.
I'm looking forward to many good things to enjoy.
